+jgkspsx
Here is today's whole Nintendo Direct. Man, are these companies all out of ideas or what? It's all remakes, sequels, and spinoffs. Original games: Triangle Strategy (Octopath Traveler spinoff), Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Disney Speedstorm (Mario Kart clone), SD Gundam Battle Alliance (Xenoblade clone?) Sequels: Splatoon 3, Fire Emblem Warriors 2: Three Hopes, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Nintendo Switch Sports, Mario Strikers Returns, Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival, Two Point Campus Ports/compilations: No Man's Sky, Portal 1 & 2, Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection, MLB The Show 22, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles, Lego Brawls, Zombie Army 4: Dead War Remakes/remasters: Chrono Cross, Front Mission 1st, Live-a-Live, Klonoa 1 & 2, Advance Wars 1+2, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon DLC: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass (48 remastered classic courses), Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course Free updates: Metroid Dread Dread Mode (1 hit kills), Rookie Mode (health boost) Switch Online releases: Earthbound Beginnings, Earthbound Live-A-Live is head and shoulders the most exciting thing to me here. It's gonna be new to most people and it is going to knock people's socks off. (It will also make Octopath Traveler look even less inspired by comparison...) Front Mission 1 remake looks as good as Live a Live though a lot more people have played that series, and it's less my thing. Splatoon 3 looks fantastic, but that's no surprise. I never got into Splatoon 2 as much as I wanted to, but this looks like a lot more fun single player as well as multiplayer. Fire Emblem Warriors 2 looks good if you need even more Dynasty Warriors in your life. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 looks a lot more like the first one and a lot more likeable than whatever the heck Everquest wannabe the second game was. I don't know that I have time to play another one of these, but it looks really beautiful. I'm happy that Nintendo finally deigned to let people play Mother again (but still no Mother 3). Wii Sports 4 looks great, and is long overdue. But there really wasn't anything that seems to offer more than just an incremental iteration except Kirby, and, man, Kirby just ain't what he used to be. I have a feeling No Man's Sky is gonna run like crap, but I would like to catch up with @neogeo1982 at some point...
Tempest
I'm most excited about Xenoblade 3, but I wish they'd make a sequel to Xenoblade X instead. I quite liked XB2 once I got used to it, but the first one was still better.
Tanooki
So we're complaining about the remakes and re-releases? Why? I guess I can see it for some, but largely this is excellent. On the Square-Enix side to finally get in english legitimately Live-A-Live and also Chrono Cross with Radical Dreamers finally done, then Front Mission, etc that's huge. And look at this shark bait bullshit disgusting prices on Klonoa games (Wii, both PS1) having K1 + K2 on one little card for the Switch with HD upgrades and quality of life fixes for probably $40-50 for that vs into the $100s per game otherwise...hah yeah, buying that. I'm also looking at Live a Live and CC+RD to grab too as they're new to me. KH1-3 can fuck off...seriously full price rental streaming off a cloud, a total kick in the teeth if you're a KH fan given the hardware is more than capable to run those games. Kirby looks utterly familiar but radically not, so want to play that. A few others like Gundam, maybe that Demon Slayer anime title, getsufuumaden konami classic remade, those are on point. AW1+2 reboot has been so utterly expanded, redone, etc it's virtually looking like a new game to me, that's very very tempting. Not sure I'd get it right off, I have a switch pile which has a LRG game release of Tiny Metal Rumble which is more or less that. To me detail wise the real attention grabbing wow are the conversions of the AC package but more so No Man's Sky as that's no small feat, would not be surprised if Panic Button had a hand or the group who did Demon Souls for the Switch as it's crazy how detailed and well that was working in those clips. Stuff like that, five years in no less, shows the Switch has some life left well within it to amaze people and hold off the need a bit more for a 'pro/2' style upgrade that does need to happen in time sooner than later. This was hands down one of their best directs for Switch in years, quite a few years. Also made huge sense to whiners complaints leaving out Zelda and Metroid, they would have watered down and infuriated developers pulling attention away from this vast spread of excellent choices. I'd expect them to get teased and flaunted in June (E3.)
Hwlngmad
Personally I was glad to see another Mario Strikers game. Definitely this Nintendo direct had something for everyone, including family and friends. Definitely Nintendo is doing a great job keeping the Switch very fresh and viable on the market.
+jgkspsx
I just want new IPs. For me, the high point of the switch has been all the indie games, some new and some old. But a new Nintendo IP that is an actual game would be very welcome. If they’re going to rerelease stuff, maybe they could rerelease Wii U games like Nintendo Land and Game & Wario. Given the dependence of those on the pad there are certainly challenges, but maybe they could do sequels. I dunno. Kirby looks better on rewatch but my favorite recent Kirby games have been ones that leaned into the art style.

My wife got excited seeing all the porn they promoted. We don't own MK8 on Switch because we played a ton of it on WiiU, but those additional courses made her say it's time to get it for Switch. Switch Sports and Kirby also excited her. My wife is so dirty to like such casual smut.
Reaperman
Is it wrong that I'm most excited about mario kart 8 dx dlc? 48 new tracks make that game nearly as interesting as ctgp revolution. I'm not the biggest mario kart fan, since it's more of a racing-themed slot machine than anything, but I'll buy the heck out of 48 new official tracks, especially at $25 for the lot. Sounds like I can buy it today. Maybe I'll just do that. Speaking of better games, is sega/m2 allergic to money? they never gave us track/car packs for virtua racing. It wouldn't take nearly as much to increase the track count in that game and make something even more special. It can't be that hard to stick a few thousand untextured polygons together. I'm always down for more xenoblade. The first one was the only game I've ever played where when talking about where you are in it with friends, you point to a body part. I did also miss the "multiplayer (but not)" from xenoblade x, that didn't return for the last title. I guess front mission looks cool--as long as they fix the first mission's intro dialogue which (in fan translations) generally pisses me off enough to switch games. I liked some games in the series but have not been able to do anything in the first one except turn it off. Advance wars is also kind of cool, but honestly that Tiny Metal series scratched the itch already. I'm probably still down for a discounted physical copy. Honestly a pretty good selection this time. But switch is still living in the same old 'hey remember this game you used to like?--rebuy it portable on switch' in a world that has a steam deck coming. I thought I read somewhere they they sold well everywhere except for Japan, which somehow made a difference to the shot-callers at Sega. tbh I'd rather have one more Sega Ages game than everything announced in that Nintendo Direct combined

Every time Kart has popped up it has never been added to either in a second title on the same format, nor have they when storage was possible added to them either. It's huge adding dozens of courses over a period of a year either included in their still laughably expensive expansion to online, or for a reasonable $25. No reason to snake the game considering MK8 still sells like crack, just give people more of what they want and that's what this does.

Yeah no need for MK9 until the next platform.

I don't have the subscription and was thinking about getting this, but if they're mostly 'samey' then maybe I'll wait. I don't play Mario Kart online anyway. Rick Dangerous
I would be interested in Mario Kart DLC, but i don't play online or have a Nintendo Online Subscription. Is it worth it just for the standalone tracks/cups/modes? Would love to hear thoughts on that from anyone who has bought it.

Id just pay the $25 and get the DLC unless you are also interested in the NES, SNES, N64 and Genesis games.
Rick Dangerous
Sounds like a plan; so what are you getting for $25; 8 more tracks, that's it? EDIT: here we go: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC Is Lazy (But Genius) | Screen Rant Yeah i won't do any online subscription services on principal. I have original NES, SNES, N64 and Genesis systems with everdrives so i don't need to pay for a few games on my Switch. Punisher5.0
48 tracks for $25 really isnt too bad. If I didn't have the subscription then Id buy it. My kids and I have put quite a few hours into the old one's so Im looking forward to some variety.
Tempest
So the $25 for the DLC includes all the tracks when they're eventually released? Not a bad deal there.
