Since both of these Games can be rolled on Game 1 Settings...

...Try to conquer these GREAT Activision Shooters on a Higher Difficulty Level!

Notes:

Next week, we will start the HOMEBREW weeks! I will be posting the HomeBrew games on Saturday March 5th. The HomeBrew weeks will last 3 weeks. The Homebrew games will be 3 Games that have NEVER been played! It will be our 'Spring Break'!

Then we will be in the home stretch with 4 - 5 weeks left.

I will also be posting the info on the NEW challenge at the end of the season in March.

Season 12 will end in April.

Thanks!

Here's my 50,000+ on laser blast. I actually had quite a few lives left at the 50,000 point, but was happy to stop having hit the max bonus. I had this one as a kid, and for some reason absolutely loved it. I played it at a friends house, and pestered my Mum to by it for me. She eventually got it as a "twin pack" with Stampede, which I had no interest in getting, but turned out to be the far better game longer term. Looking back now, I have no idea why I enjoyed Laser Blast so much (perhaps beyond the fact that it was the first Activision game I could reach a patch score on), but playing Stampede again now, the appeal of that is still obvious.

Anyway, I'll shut up now, and here's the score. Now onto Megamania

This week's game is a real toughie, but a fun one if you like vertical shooters! :)

Megamania (Game 3, A/B Difficulty): 55,990

No bonus for me this week because after half an hour of trying I still couldn't get more than 2,500 points in Laser Blast and I'm tired of being frustrated

Laser Blast game 3bb: 101250 and I still have full lives. It’s a fun little Bayraktar simulator. Gonna take it to a million, thank goodness for Analogue Pocket sleep mode :)

I am not convinced game 3 is harder than game 1, though.

@Skippy B. Coyote and @Atari_Warlord, the thing to keep in mind is that Laser Blast is not a shooter. It’s a rhythm game. You hold the button while tanks scroll in then release, tap right and press fire and release, tap right and press fire and release. Boom boom boom. You get an extra life every thousand points and you get a thousand points plus every four screens. In this game I was down to one ship multiple times in the early going, but was able to build back to full lives again each time. If you are aiming your cannon at all you have no chance, you have to shoot straight down.

Holy heck thank you so much! Once you told me Laser Blast isn't a shooter, it's a rhythm game, I figured it out real quick. That advice made all the difference in the world! Tap tap tap, tap tap tap! :D

This is yet another great game. Looking back at these games years after the event, I never cease to be amazed by how much gameplay the best programmers got from so little hardware capability. This game is another case in point, albeit this version is very hard.

I've spent far too much time playing  this over the past few days, and this is the best I have managed so far. I'll try some more, but don't expect to beat this one :

Man, Megamania really does have a lot in common with Laser Blast - they’re both rhythm games! But man these are some of the most infuriating enemy movement patterns ever.

It has been a long time since I played this seriously, and I don’t think I’ve ever played slow shot before. Straight shot doesn’t seem harder than steerable shot, at least at my current level of incompetence, but slow shot is a lot harder than fast shot.

Wow, these are not games you can phone in at the buzzer. I gave them a go last night and do not have respectable scores to submit. Better clear my calendar.

Laser Blast is trivial once you get the rhythm. But I can’t seem to get it with Megamania.
