Low Cost Fujinet v1.6 - Includes USB and Coleco Adam hardware components

Greetings,

Today I finished a batch of my minimalistic and Low Cost General Purpose Fujinet v1.6

These are called general purpose, due to the interface its not only dedicated to Atari 8 bits computers;

the unit is detachable, a DB15 to SIO, DB15 to DIN6, DB15 to RJ12, DB15 to DB19...

allows you to connect the Fujinet v1.6 to each supported (currently or future) computer such Atari 8 bits - Commodore 64 - Coleco Adam - Apple II

The unit includes all the hardware elements of Fujinet v1.6, also the Coleco Adam interface components.

Via jumpers, you can select the desired operation, if Atari 8 bits SIO (C64 as well) or if you desire Coleco Adam Interface.

As well, the unit can be powered externally, or via the SIO interface. There is a jumper to change this selection.

The USB interface is included, in order to update the device.

Microcontroller is the same, an ESP32 WROVER with 16 MB flash and 8 MB PSRAM

A photograph of the device:

And a video of the device being operated by an Atari 65XE:

These units are available at the Atari Age marketplace;

its a continous manufacturing, in the same way as the Atari ST/E hard disk units.

Very cool idea!

I just want to verify that you have the needed components for ADAMNet interface on board and you just need to change jumpers for that (and have correct adapter)?

Latest ADAM schematic was posted recently https://github.com/FujiNetWIFI/fujinet-hardware/blob/master/ADAM-Prototype/adamfuji-v1.0-schematic.jpg

It's worth noting that Apple II interface we are currently testing on does not use the buffer and is connected to esp32 thru 470 ohm resistors (FujiNet 1.0 hardware). Maybe you could use DIP buffer chips with socket and you could remove buffers and replace with resistors for A2, just an idea. The plan for C64 (so far) is to use the same buffers.

The Coleco hardware interface follows the schematic you show,

As you detectes, the idea is to support as many systems as possible, changing only the DB15 cable

I think this works well for Atari 8 bit - C64 and Coleco, the Apple II is still experimental, I know

Would an ADAM Card be faster than the phone jack AdamNet?

Just an idea.

There's more to picking an interface, than speed.

I will keep repeating until I am blue in the face: SPEED IS NOT EVERYTHING. You can have the fastest interconnect to a device possible, but if you have no integration with underlying software, you've simply engaged in hardware design masturbation. This is perhaps the most important lesson that those of us working on FujiNet have learned.

The AdamNet is completely supported by the underlying operating system, if you make a card, now you have to write option firmware to provide less possible integration. Someday all of you will realize that this path of "we did the hardware interconnect, we're done" is beyond short sighted and stupid.
