5200 OE HSC Challenge 03/2022 Robotron2084

We haven't run any twin stick death in recent memory, so play Robotron on defaults in this 40th year of 5200. For this round, you may use any period stick with at least one Cx52. If only running one stick, then use any you like from the era. 1-stick play will count as a bonus half-round, with those only having 1 stick, getting their scores applied to both. :) Play on original Atari systems, using the specified controls. Only modern exceptions are Flashcarts/SD loaders, running original Roms. Pics preferred, but not required except for HSC wins and records. Round ends when month does.

Current HSC records- bust one or both for bonus point(s)!

Such a blast to break out the controller holder and yoke up! (2 controllers)

+1 for record busting, and you can still earn the elusive "defense point". If someone tops that, and you retake it by round end= successful defense.

191,350 - Love this game. Best way to rack points is going for the humanoids.

Tried with one stick but my score was so pathetic I won’t even post it. ? I’ll never understand how anyone can even attempt this game on the 7800 being limited to one stick. That’s torture.

You can play with two sticks on the 7800 just like on the 5200. There is just no fancy controller holder for the 7800.

How? What do you use to hold the pro-line sticks in place? Or even 2600 controllers?

Somebody else's hands. A board and duct tape. Your feet. Whatever you got.

The original prototype holder for the ProLines has been found and I think you can get a 3D printed one of it.

I always used two sega controllers on the A8 and 7800 versions

I usually try for humanoids except on the brainiac levels. They are so tempting because there are so many, but it’s a scam and before you know it, you’ve got fifty progzombies and cruise missiles coming after you.

In later rounds i get more points from the tank levels and their 1000-point spawned square thingies than the brains.

i believe the 8bit version had a controller holder built into the box that would hold two 2600 controllers, or was I hallucinating that?

Yes I think I remember seeing that. I've used the mini gemsticks together but ti was still cumbersome. Retrogameboys makes a Robotron controller. I might pick one up just for Robot Wat when that comes out.
