BobRedthorp
For my first post I thought why not share my experience getting back into the world of Lynx gaming. I did have an original Lynx back in the day but I only owned a few of games for it (chips challenge and California Games spring to mind). I honestly have no idea what happened to that system, which is strange for me as I’m always very careful with my games and consoles, most of which I still have to this day. Anyway, cut to around two week ago, whilst browsing on eBay I noticed a listing for a boxed Lynx II in pristine condition, listed as not working I decided to put in a cheeky offer and much to my suprise the seller accepted. Upon arrival the system looked immaculate, I remember reading the Lynx II doesn’t power on without a game inserted so first things first, get a game and some fresh batteries, but true enough it was dead. So googling brought me to these forums and uppon reading I discovered that most likely it needed the power regulator replaced so I bought a replacement kit along with a capacitor kit, success everything seemed to be fine but I found one further issue, no sound coming from the left headphone! Thanks to these forums I also found a possible reason could be due to a blown LM386 audio amp, perhaps caused by the previous owner accidentally plugging a PSU into the headphone jack, so I ordered up a couple of replacements. The LM386 replacement did indeed fixe the audio issue. Next I ordered up a Lynx GameDrive and a BennVenn LCD kit, I probably ended up spending a lot more in a short space of time than I intended on this system but Ive had a blast refurbishing it and hopefully it will now live on for a long time to come, I’m so happy how everything turned out! It’s so cool to see that there’s a loyal Lynx community and people are creating homebrew and hardware upgrades for the system. I had also forgotten how good the Lynx can look, I don’t remember it being so colourful! I now want to get my hands on an OG Lynx and start collecting more games. Oh and thanks to all the folk that post advice on here, their expertise and pro tips have proved invaluable! 3
Songbird
Cool story! That's a lot of effort to get a Lynx back to pristine condition but it's worth it.
