How do people score insanely high scores on Tetris?

Recommended Posts

First of all, you have to score Tetrises almost every time you clear a line. Which is pretty much impossible. Second, you have to start on Level 19 or 18 or 17, which is too fast. Third, you have to be lucky, but I am never that good at random number generating programs. How do people control Tetris on level 19? I find it too fast for me to control. After attempt and attempt at trying to score a good Tetris score, I have to give up and accept this:

I have to start on level 15 because even level 16 and 17 are too fast for me to start out on.

Tetris is my favorite game. I've been playing for a few years and my best is in the high 500k range, haven't even broke 600k. I'm not that great at level 18 starts but I can break 400k sometimes. Level 19 is still almost impossible for me. I'm not sure what the secret is either, other than natural talent. The very high scorers are better than most of us will ever be no matter how much we practice. I also can't imagine myself doing that crazy tapping/rolling shit.

I am a one-way flipper though (occasionally flipping the other way to attempt to spin a piece in place).
