clunkerslim
You wouldn't think this would be hard, but I'm having trouble finding actual links to working emulators for the 2600, NES, and SNES. I can find current versions of all the popular emulators, but they don't work on Windows XP. Anyone got any suggestions?
KeeperofLindblum
RetroArch is a front end for a variety of emulators, and they have a Windows XP version. Going to assume it should cover the 3 consoles you have listed there, but I don't have a Windows XP machine to test it out. https://www.retroarch.com/?page=platforms
KeeperofLindblum
If you are looking for more standalone emulators, Zophar's Domain is a decent place to start. I've added links to the 3 console sections you were looking for. https://www.zophar.net/a2600.html https://www.zophar.net/nes.html https://www.zophar.net/snes.html You'll probably have to find an older version among that list, but I imagine something there should work.
+Gemintronic
Looks like Stella 6.0.2 is the last version to support XP. https://github.com/stella-emu/stella/releases/tag/6.0.2
Keatah
I'm using Stella 6.4 with WinXP Home Edition. On dotcom era hardware to boot! 6.5 also works, but I don't care for that new SQL database thing they got going now. I suppose XP compatibility actually breaks in 6.6. 1
clunkerslim
Guys, I downloaded the XP version of RetroArch (thanks.) I loaded the core emulators. Now what? I've been using Launchbox on my actual PC for so long that I don't remember how to launch the games in Retroarch in XP. Do I need a front end program for this? I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing next.
clunkerslim
OK, well I got the games to run. But now they're all running at like 5x the normal speed!
Keatah
Cool! Lots of performance headroom!

LaunchBox works perfectly with RetroArch, this is the best tutorial I can find (sorry it's YouTube, but this guy is good). For other emulators, always get 32-bit versions for XP. Sounds obvious but some people can't tell the difference between 32 & 64 bit programs.
