Screen 1 Challenge (Another Sprinkle of Madness)

 

Game Information

Game Name: Donkey Kong Jr.

CV HSC High Score: Skill 4: First time playing Skill 4 for the DK Jr. Screen 1 Challenge in the CV HSC.

Screen 1 Challenge Rules: Play on Skill 4. Play on Screen 1 only. Do not advance to Screen 2. Get as many points as you can using all 4 lives (the 4th life is awarded at 10,000 points) on Screen 1. Simply play until the timer runs out for each life on Screen 1. Drop fruit on the snapjaws, jump over the snapjaws but only on Screen 1!

 

DK Jr. Screen 1 Challenge Bonus Points: Play the game & post a score= +3

Score 4,000= +2, Score 8,000= +3, Score 12,000= +4, Score 16,000= +5, Score 20,000= +7, Score 23,000= +10, Score 27,000 & up= +12

Break or set a new CV HSC High Score= +10

 

Round Ends: Sunday May 22nd at 8pm (PST) 11pm (EST)

 

Everyone who posts a score throughout the season will be entered into a drawing at seasons end for a special prize!

[Skill 4]:  22,600 pts.  Had a little over 6k on the first life this time.

Regularly getting between 19k-22k now.  Getting near 30k is going to be tough, but I'd love to see somebody pull that off.  You need the game to be very generous to you on the first two fruits of the level.  I've had as little as 800 pts on the first two fruits and as much as 2,800 pts (3k is possible, but you need those blue chompers to cooperate on that second fruit).

Yeah, I felt I was on a roll and was expecting to do really well - but then the stupid mistakes started happening........oh well.  I'll try again.

After many attempts I finally managed to improve my score.  Quite chuffed with this.  I might be able to do a little better but I'm certainly reaching my limits here.

LOL.  Well, I'm an old Englishman so it's never left my lexicon. ?   In fact, I think there should be a resurgence of its use.  Young people today have no idea what a lovely word it is and I'd be downright chuffed if more people used it.  Oops - there it is again ?

24,000 (Skill 4). For this particular score, I managed 8,300 for the first life. I have also had 8,100 and 9,000 as well but blew chunks with, as has been previously mentioned, stupid deaths. I have had 4,000 with the first fruit. Every so often 2 blue snapjaws with move down the second vine while the red snapjaw is moving left towards the second vine. If you are quick enough all three can be nailed with the fruit scoring 4k. You definitely need some luck with the blue snapjaws on some of the fruit for better scores as Dugger stated. I usually try to get to the top for the last fruit around 1500 on the Bonus Timer. After getting the last fruit don't just stand around, jump over as many blue snapjaws as you can on the platform with Mario before the timer runs out. They are 100 points each. That could be 1,000 points or more between all four lives towards your total score. It's pretty much getting some luck with the right setups and when you do, executing. I have also noticed that making perfect jumps over the blue snapjaws here and there doesn't always score the 100 points. You don't hear the sound and you don't get the points. I didn't think it would be so tough to score 25k and up but it's proving to be quite the challenge. The "Madness" will do that to you.

In this part of the world years ago we would say stoked in place of chuffed. I was really "stoked" to get that DK Jr. score. Haven't heard that in quite some time either.

I like these challenges. Lots of randomness involved tho, but it still takes quite a lot of skill to squeeze out all the points you can.
