Atari 800Xl box/computer matching serials - question

Hi All,

I have just bought Atari 800xl from the 1st owner in, basically, new condition. The only thing is the serial on the box is not matching the computer. It is the same week, but number differs a bit. Is it a common thing? or maybe the shop changed it in 80ties? interesting

I'd say prob sellers aquire a box that isn't always the one it came with.

I met the owner; genuine one. I don't think he bought a different box to sell it for the price I got it. then, the numbers are very close, including the same week (you would need to look a bit too get the same week).

All the boxed examples I've owned have had the same number on box and computer.

Apart from the 600xl I have now, but I bought the box for that separately.

I've also seen boxes with missing labels, probably to hide the fact that they don't match

I truly believe the owner was genuine; mystery will not be solved then  the computer has plastics on all the solver keys; brand new.

Could have been one that the shop had on display and had been taken out of it's box and

when sold was put in the wrong box ... maybe ???

Will do tomorrow in the morning;-) this is the NL PAL computer; what I liked the most is the warranty stamped from the shop in Amsterdam
