Atari Lynx II power issue

I bought a lynx power adapter, and the first time I plugged it in, my lynx powered on for a second, then never again. I checked the voltage on the power adapter it it shows 12v, not the expected 9v. What part should I change first to attempt to repair my beloved Lynx II?

Please help me :(

I should have tested the PSU first..... grrr

When there is no current being consumed by the Lynx (not powered on or the power unit unit is unplugged) it is reasonable for the power unit to be outputting 12-15V because they are unregulated supplies, when the Lynx is running correctly the output voltage from the power unit will drop to around 9V.

As for what could be causing it there are plenty of posts in this forum with regard to Power On/Off issues, I suggest you do a search for them as the answer is problem already in at least one of them. But rather than a failure or the main part of the Lynx it could just be a bad power socket in the Lynx or lead from the power unit resulting in intermittent power connection in which case flexing the power cable near to the power connector/wiggling the power connector in the power socket may result in the Lynx staying powered On, but only until the position of the power cable/connector moves.

Did you have a cartridge inserted?

I had a game in it, but it flashed INSERT GAME and immediately went right off. Good to know the power supply isn't running too high. I have never run on AC the whole time I have owned my Lynx, maybe the AC barrel went bad?

It worked on batteries before, and wouldn't work on batteries after.
