Atari paddles not working

Mac-7

Recommended Posts

I have the 2600 and original Atari paddles

when I plug them into the lefthand port there is no response from the knob

but pressing the fire button moves the object sideways

at this time I only have one game - missile command - which is not made for paddles

but they do not work on my c64 with Arkanoid or Pong

And I’m told they are supposed to work

could the addles be defective?

Why would you think they are broken if you know Missile Command isn't a compatible game?  You'll want to test on the 2600 with Breakout, Super Breakout, or Kaboom.  Oh - Night Driver also uses the standard paddles.

The buttons on the paddles correspond to left and right on a joystick. In a non-paddle game, that's all that's going to happen if you try to use the paddles. I've never tried using Atari paddles on a C64 so I have no idea if they're 100% compatible. Your best bet would be to find an actual paddle game.

Astroblast, Warlords, or Demons to Diamonds are also worth a try

A more complete list of games here: https://atariage.com/controller_page.php?SystemID=2600&ControllerID=2

most undoubtedly the controller will have "the jitters" ... a good guid to clean them here:
