ianoid
What did the M-network Tron joystick originally come with? The Atarimania pictures are a bit confusing, showing both loose and complete carts. I thought it came with both Tron games sealed in original packages, as well as the joystick, and that when sealed the M-network logo should be facing out through the window? I have a sealed copy with two loose carts in zip-loc baggies floating around in the boxed the manuals are in a baggie that is also floating around the package. It appears sealed, but I'm worried it might be a reseal. Box is rough. Edited July 21, 2022 by ianoid
+groundtrooper
It didn't come with boxed games. The games were loose and fit in some slots in the black cardboard backer the wraps around the joystick. I have two of these in package and can tell you there is no way there was room for the boxed games in the Special Edition Joystick box.

Is it reasonable that they put the carts in zip-loc baggies and that they could be floating around in the package? Or were they fastened in place by the packaging? Or were they fastened in place by the packaging? I don't know. The areas where the carts slide in on each side of the insert backer have areas that look like the carts were "wired" to the cardboard and the wire ends were taped down on the back side because the backside of the backer on the cart sides there is tape residue that leads me to believe this theory. Neither of mine had baggies, but both of them were opened and used and the windows in fair to bad condition between the two of them.
Rom Hunter
Thanks for clearing this up, Groundtrooper. I removed the picture with the two boxes from our database.
+groundtrooper
No problem. Glad I could clear this up. I always wondered myself if the games came CIB when I learned about the Special Pack box and originally looking at the AtariMania listing I thought it did. When I got my first CIB and it came with loose carts and when I examined the Special Pack box and tried to fit my own two TRON CIB's inside I discovered there was no way to physically fit two CIB Tron titles in the Special Pack box. You could probably fit one but it would be a very tight fit. When I happened across the 2nd one it pretty much confirmed to me that these just came with the two loose carts and paperwork and manuals tucked back behind out of sight until you opened up the box.

+jeremiahjt
Was there a manual for the joystick? Or any sort of paperwork for it?

Perhaps this added to the confusion as well: consumers who purchased both TRON Deadly Discs and Adventures of TRON could receive a free TRON joystick during a spring 1983 promotion.
