Hi gang.

i spent about 30 hours working on this. Hope you enjoy:

25 Most Expensive Atari 2600 Games (From 2002 to 2022)

I watched the video and appreciate the time you put into it, however, I am not sure how accurate it is.  I think using Rarityguide.com as a source of prices is probably not the most accurate depiction of today's pricing.

I dont believe Rarityguide has updated Atari pricing in years.  Many of the Atari 2600 games on the site have pricing that is way out of whack with what some titles are selling for now.

Any chance that you can just post the list here, or on a web page?  I'm not going to slog through a 20 minute video for a list.

But then how will we be sure to hit that like and subscribe button, learn about RAID Shadow Legends, ring that bell, and then really please The Algorithm?

Hi! thank you for the feedback. To clarify, i only used rarity guide for rarity. prices came from price charting (for 2022) and the book “collecting classic video games” by billy galaxy for 2002.

i am working on one for 5200 right now, be happy to source somewhere else for rarity if you have a suggestion.

I like the look of gamevaluenow better than pricecharting, but the sales are only captured up to Sep 21.  Not sure if they’ve given up on the site or not.

OK. this is good information. I want this to be as accurate as possible. So I am open to suggestions. Thanks.

Hi! Thanks for the feedback. I did not include prices from Rarityguide. Just the rarity grade from rarity guide. As I explained in the intro to my video the 2002 prices from a book called "Collecting Classic Video games" by Billy Galaxy and all the 2022 prices from pricecharting for CIB as of August 2022.

I'm not sure if rarity guide is even the best source for Rarity, I'd be open to suggestions.

That is a question for price charting dot com. I have also had conflicting reports that Klax and Quadrun did (and did not) have boxes.  I decided that Pricecharting CIB was what i would use , and there was a sale listed there as complete. maybe it didn’t include a box. the ebay sale doesn’t have any photos, so i just have to take their word for it.

Where's Air Raid?

I was trying to limit myself to contemporary sources, and so I used the 2002 book “Collecting Classic Video Games” as my “source of truth” as you can see from my attached image, Air Raid is not listed in that price guide.

The 30k dollar sale of air raid happened in 2010. I am not sure if an extant “complete copy” of air raid was known about in 2002. And if it was it was not included in this book.

I wanted to show price ranges in 2002 and 2022. If i had included air raid i would have had to speculate on 2002 value. I didn’t want to speculate as i wanted to avoid the guys on Atari Age coming for me about inaccuracies. (but they did anyway ;) ).

Wow. Not sure how I feel about this list as a pretty hardcore Atari 2600/7800 CIB collector. There are 5 games I would kick off of your list instantly.

You have 2 PAL only games in your list that are mixed in with 23 NTSC games. You should at least be comparing games that were available in the same region.

KLAX is a PAL only game and it was very much released in a Red box. I have 2 copies.

Surfers Paradise, another PAL game. There are other games from this third party vendor that are more rare then Surfers Paradise. (Like Steeple Chase)

James Bond 007 - Not that rare CIB compared to two other Parker Brothers games that I will list below.

Tapper, also not that rare compared to others.

Spacemaster X - Again, not that rare. I paid $22 for a near mint copy in 2018.

So what would I replace these 5 with?

River Patrol - The rarest Tigervision game loose or CIB and it's not on your list.

Mr. Do's Castle & Q*Berts Qubes. The two rarest Parker Bros games CIB. Leaps and bounds rarer than James Bond. Also add Star Wars Arcade as rarer CIB then 007.

Mangia and Master Builder and Bumper Bash - all rarer than Gas Hog from the same vendor.

Spy Hunter from Sega is more rare than Tapper especially if you are counting the joystick tray which is part of a true CIB package.

And if you want to talk Atari add in Track and Field. CIB, it is nearly impossible. And Rubik's Cube box is also very hard to come by.

If am taking out KLAX I would replace it with Asterix and Obelix. while they are more common in the PAL world they saw limited NTSC distribution in Canada.

Activision - Cosmic Commuter - Good luck finding that in a box these days.

I could go on an on. But there are just a few that were/are MUCH MORE RARE then (2002) and still NOW than some on your list. ;)

Do you mean Mangia? Malagai wasn't a Spectravideo title. 😜

Although, incidentally, it is arguably rarer than Gas Hog.

Yes, Mangia. Sorry. I was looking at the boxes on my shelves as I was typing and my brain typed the wrong name.

both games have all the same letters for the most part except for one difference and an extra “a”. And yes is Rarer than Gas Hog. Lol.

I edited my post. 😉

Hey. thanks for the feedback. I am a collector, but obviously not one with your knowledge. as such I had to choose a document to act as my source of truth for this video.

First of all, i should point out that this is not a list of “rarest” games. The only reason i included rarity at all was just for context. This is a list of the most valuable games as they were listed in the price guide section of Billy Galaxy’s “Collecting classic video games”.

That book did not differentiate between regions, so i wasn’t sure what was PAL va NTSC so I just included them side by side. although it does explain why Klax has some confusing listings with some sites claiming it was never in box (obviously it was boxed somewhere as you have two copies) .

some of the games you mention, such as river patrol were not listed in the 2002 price guide i was using. other games, like a asterix ($48 CIB in 2002) are listed with far lower values than the other games i choose.

I am sure you are correct, but the source i was using did not contain some of those games or was perhaps undervaluing some.

Still I appreciate your comments. this gives me something i can look into when I create the inevitable “corrections from Atari Age” video.

Thank your for pointing these out to me. I want to reiterate this list was not ranked by rarity.
