Ikrananka
The following might interest those who purchased Team Pixelboy's port of Asteroids but were disappointed that the Asteroids Controller for ColecoVision by doubledown became a cancelled project. There is a small form factor alternative that I just recently became aware of thanks to this video by RMC on YouTube - https://youtu.be/8Dv15YRAmzM?t=808. Those active in the Vectrex community will likely already be aware of this as it was developed over two years ago, initially for the Vectrex, as discussed here on AA: What's cool is that there is an Atari style 9-pin connector alternative available that should be compatible with the ColecoVision and is mentioned both in the AA discussion above and here on the official webpage for the controller: http://tenpencearcade.co.uk/victors-tinkerings/vectrex-asteroids-controllers-2/. Even better, the 9-pin controller outputs match those of the cancelled doubledown controller and therefore this should, in theory, work with the ColecoVision port of Asteroids when the game's Controller option is set to Asteroids. Be aware though that the Pause button on doubledown's cancelled controller is NOT on this smaller alternative (Pause is mapped to the ColecoVision controller's right fire button). If you're interested in pre-ordering one of these then note that they are produced by hand in batches and due to the RMC video there has been a surge in demand. So, don't expect to be able to get one soon. Also, note that the overlay for the 9-pin variant excludes the Vectrex logo and looks like that shown below. The controller has NOT been tested on a ColecoVision nor has it been tested with the ColecoVision port of Asteroids - although I can see no reason why it shouldn't work. Zinister
Cool. I'll let someone else be the Guinea pig before I'd consider buying one. I'm very interested though. I'd need to slap a Colecovision sticker on it..

I was considering adding a Coleco logo where the Vectrex one used to be.

Pixelboy
Hi virtvic. Nice of you to drop by. I think everyone here would like to know if your Asteroids controller works with Asteroids on ColecoVision. Do you happen to own a ColecoVision console?
virtvic
I don’t anymore (although I do own one of the mini reproductions) it should work fine as it uses standard Atari pins 1,2,3,4 for up, down, left, right 6 for fire and 8 for GND
virtvic
Looking at the controller schematic, I could actually wire a small button in to pin 6 for Pause as well. Could hide the pause button around the back, like I do with the menu buttons on the Vectrex controllers.

I love the sound of that and am happy to be a guinea pig for it.
virtvic
These controllers have neen tested on a real Colecovision and they work just fine! I've just made 2 more for a customer (with the pause button around the back) I have a ton of other controllers to make, but will also be taking orders for these too. I can offer the colour overlay and also a b&w one (like arcade cabaret / cocktail versions) without the Vectrex logo of course! 2
Bomberman93
Today I tested the controller made by virtvic with my ColecoVision and Phoenix. There are no issues, all functions work proper. Even the pause button on the backside. It brings a lot of fun to Asteroids and Star Castle. The size is similar to the Phoenix case. The overlay looks and feels very professional. The buttons are very simple, but they are good for the price. No arcade quality like Edladdin or Doubledown. It's worth it!
Bomberman93
And a pic of the pause button.
virtvic
They are official Sanwa Arcade buttons. You can only use these as they are the only true arcade buttons that will fit in the case, with it being so low. Glad you are enjoying it! virtvic
That’s ok, they are very different to micro Switch and leaf switch buttons.
