Over the course of several years, people here and elsewhere have helped him - monetarily and otherwise - with the understanding that he gets his financial act together.  He promises that this will be the last time for reals, but every single time, on time and without fail, he goes right back to doing the very things that landed him in the shit to begin with.

Exactly.  When the person you're helping put himself in the jam in the first place, and has no intention of modifying his behavior, then what you're doing is enabling.  The sooner that stops, the better it is for everyone involved, including Ray.

If I were selling anything around, I would blacklist the guy, and I genuinely hope that does happen for his sake.

Maybe this shouldn't get so personal. Advice on videos? Sure. They've actually gotten significantly better. Financial advice? Sure, but it's clearly a struggle for him. He's very open, including discussing his disabilities. If you believe him and you don't think he'll ever change, there's no valid reason to berate him.

Actually, bullying is an extremely effective way of enforcing conformity when it's allowed to go on.  In fact, when someone refuses to listen to reason, it's the about the only thing short of force or coercion that actually does work.  At the very least, it might make him less brazen about his willingness to take advantage of others.  If what's been said to him this far even rises to that level, that is.

Maybe people who are patting Ray on the back and puffing him up ought to think about the damage they're doing.  This guy ain't playing with a full deck, and he's dead serious about this "make it in the business" talk.  The guy is pushing 60 if he isn't already there, he has articulation problems, psychiatric disabilities, and looks like a dude who might try to steal the copper piping out of your house to buy drugs with.  Do people at that age, with those limitations, and with no professional experience make it in broadcasting or creative industries at any level outside a tiny handful of outliers?

They do not, and leading him to believe otherwise is not good for him, or do you want to see him in hock to payday loan vampires because he's "putting you FIRST"?

To the mainstream it doesn't matter how many series you put out on your X amount of YouTube channels, nor the amount of talent you have, the only thing they give a shit about is the zip code you live in...

Ray, do you really think the only difference between you and Nick Jonas as an entertainment property is your zip code?  Because if so, man have you been ill-advised.

Let me ask you something, what would be worse, living in a world where you really were super talented and the whole business was just trying to suppress you, or living in a world where you're an average talent who never made it because 99% of average talents never do?

Ray, nice videos. Any videos on the 5200 is a win for all of us 5200 fans. Thanks.

Your history of posts requesting programmers to make 8bit conversions when you said you'd stop was highly annoying, but no one can deny your passion for the 5200 console.

I hope you are able to work your personal issues out.

I'm in the music industry, be sure to have an updated LinkedIn page.

Best,

Ken

Thanks Ken!!! :)

A small update  it looks like I'm gonna really have to tighten down the purse straps a bit, I just found out my car insurance bill unexpectedly and surprisingly went up 5 bucks this month, I mean it's bad enough that here in Washington we are required to carry valid insurance to drive but now our rates have gone up too, and this on top of these outrageous gas prices, we pay almost 2 dollars a gallon more than the national average and this is becoming real bullshit!!! It's a good thing I have not only my 5200 but also local cable for the local stations and broadband internet but also Hulu, Peacock, and plenty of VHS, DVD and plenty of porn too, so knowing that as well as The Mariners are back in the postseason for the first time since 2001 I would definitely park my car except for going to and from work (less than a mile each way) and stay home and film some more vids!!!

I'm going to enjoy my Astros against your Mariners. Congrats on the Mariners making the playoffs.  I was a Griffey fan back in the day.

This right here is a huge part of the problem - a complete disconnect from reality thinking that you are anywhere close to the talent level of these people, and you are just not being noticed because of 1 - where you live, or 2 - Cindy Margolis won't personally respond to you.  This would be like me bitching that I never made it in professional wrestling (being 6'0 and 185 pounds and completely unathletic) because I lived in Ohio and Heather Kozar whom I went to high school with never put me in touch with the right people.  Not because unlike say Hulk Hogan who was 6'7" 320 pounds of roided up muscle and full of talent in that business.

I know any replies are a complete waste of time because you just don't have the ability to comprehend what is being said, or if you do it lasts for 2 or 2 days and then it's completely gone and the cycle repeats itself.

Yeah but right now it's 8-1Jays here in the 5th inning of game 2 and it looks like there'll be a third and deciding game tomorrow in Hogtown on ABC so you might have to wait to see whom you'll be facing in the ALDS (all 5 potential games will be on TBS for those who may not know, while FOX and FS1 will cover the NLDS as both the Braves and Dodgers await their opponents in that round).

Well if it's any small thing, while going to high school with Cindy Margolis BITD I grew up watching WWF Championship Wrestling and watched Hulk Hogan in 1984 and have been a lifelong Hulkamaniac since day one (January 23rd, 1984), when he beat The Iron Sheik to win the (then) WWF title in what was supposed to have been a rematch between the then-new champion Iron Sheik and the man he defeated to win the title the month before at Madison Square Garden in New York, Bob Backlund, who had invoked his rematch clause, but came up injured during training for that match, so Hogan was picked (and endorsed by Bob Backlund himself BTW) as his replacement, the rest, is history.

Well then you're myopic.  Cigarette smoking has been on the decline for 20 years due to what is in effect a society-wide mass bullying campaign.  Berating and shaming people does indeed work to modify people's conduct. That's why it's such a universal human behavior.  If you can't understand how inflicting negative emotional states to deter a self-destructive behavior might be helpful, then I don't know what to tell you.

Of course, it's less effective in the age of the internet, where the subject can always find someone else to validate him, which undermines the social pressure that's being brought to bear.

But at any rate, I'm not promoting it; I'm just pointing out that it works.  Almost everyone in this thread, you included, busted his balls mercilessly or told him off over the daily "can someone please convert this 8-bit game" posts, and lo and behold, he's pretty much stopped.

This man has told everyone that he lost a 29 years-long relationship because of these Rupert Pumpkin shenanigans of his.  Not only is that emotionally distressing, I'm sure, but going from two to one incomes for someone in his economic class is materially devastating.  If what he's saying there is true, that's heartbreaking, especially because you and I and everyone reading this know good and well that he is not going to start a successful career in broadcasting, at his age, and with his limitations.

You say "Nice videos, Ray.  Good job."  What Ray hears is "Skip getting your meds to buy $800 worth of Atari shit so you can make more videos, Ray.  The Legions demand it.  You're vindicated.  Cindy Margolis is going to have no choice but to acknowledge your greatness soon."

So, I'm just going to repeat my previous question: do you want to see him not buying his meds and paying 35% on a payday loan so he can get another 7800 multicart?  If so, keep on patting him on his ass to be a nice guy and that's exactly what will happen.  Probably will happen anyway, but at least those of us who are willing to tell him the truth aren't contributing to it even if we are saying things that are not pleasant to hear, and frankly, not pleasant to say.

Hey @Stephen, I just did my research on Heather Kozar, you know, both she AND Cindy Margolis were one-time Barker's Beauties on The Price Is Right and both posed for Playboy as well, I am quite impressed, and she was even hooked up with Cleveland Browns QB Tim Couch at that!!! You ought to be proud of your past too, the same as I am. You join me in having bragging rights that very few of us could ever have. But Heather was an entertainer while you were an athlete, as is Tim Couch, but Cindy and I are/were both entertainers and that's why I was hoping she might've helped me out but, not to be.

As for myself measuring my career to that of guys like Justin Bieber and Nick Jonas, maybe it is a bit of a stretch but I wanted to prove my staying power in this business but was also frustrated that I never got noticed, and so I used them as scapegoats so to speak, when I, admittedly,  am not even close to being nearly in the same league as they are, maybe 20 years ago I might have been, but that window came and went, and without me even knowing it.

No Ray, I shouldn't, nor should you.  You are not getting the point I am trying to make.  And I swear - I mean this in the nicest possible way.  The fact I went to school with someone who became famous has less than 0% effect on my life.  It means jack shit of nothing.  It's nothing to brag about.  She & I did not know each other existed back then, the same as now.  That is what I am trying to say.  She was a mean girl back then and I was (and still am a colossal nerd).  Had I even thought of talking to her back then (the same as now) it would have been met with laughter.  But it didn't bother me then, nor does it now.  BTW - getting popular due to getting plastic surgery and spreading your legs to anyone that offers you a job or fame, is also nothing in my opinion to brag about.  But I digress - it's not the point I was trying to make.

Put another way.  Do not live your life or make decisions trying to impress somebody else (unless it was your father, I understand living to impress your dad).  Real life friendships matter.  Worry about people that are close to you, and like you for you.  Don't cling to a fantasy, for whatever reason, no matter how glamorous it may seem.  Because it will lead to nothing but heartbreak, and unfortunately, this has happened more than once in your past.  This is what some of us are trying to tell you, in order that you do not get hurt again.  Neither monetarily, or emotionally.

I hope this makes some sense, and I truly do hope you understand where we are coming from when offering you advice.  I wish you well and would gladly buy you a beer and have lunch with you if I met you.

Calling me myopic in itself is myopic.  My undergraduate studies are in psychology and I have 20+ years working with special needs students in education.  I've already addressed my issues with Ray in other posts.

Your comparison with cigarettes to the situation with Ray is illogical. I don't disagree with some of the things you have to say.  What Ray does with his own money is not my business.

I'd most certainly take up that offer although make mine non-alcoholic as I don't drink (something like Coke or Pepsi), thanks! I'll try and hold my head up a bit more knowing I gave it a run even though I came up short. :)

Sounds like you just didn't look at it from the right angle.  At 6'0 and 185, you could have been the "Andre the Giant" of midget wrestling and gone far by working that gimmick!

Damn straight!  Better to try and fail than never to have tried at all.  Keep doing the videos IF THEY BRING YOU JOY.  Keep in mind what we said about using emulators for some of your videos too - there's nothing wrong with that, and best of all, there's no cost involved with emulators!

Relax guys you're all right, I should just take it easy on myself, the pressure has been lifted off me.

As for my 401k at my work over at Safeway, if I indeed do have one I would possibly need it...... no, not for buying vintage consoles at inflated prices in order to pursue a dream that we all know by now is not going to happen, but rather to fix my 2002 New Beetle GLS, in which needs multiple repairs in which normally I could not afford without putting my finances in a tailspin, the drivers side headlamp housing needs to be replaced due to bad wiring,  in which explains why one of these days I might get a ticket for no workingheadlights if I run into a real renegade redneck for a cop, they have those here, that runs about $600.00, the timing belt is long overdue, that'll run me another $1,600.00, the passenger side front turn signal doesn't work, the passenger side foglamp is also burned out, also the wiring harness for the passenger side window, in which has been left a crack open for over 5 years, that's gonna run me $1,000.00, new coils and spark plugs, new hoses for the windshield washer system, new interior door panels, new glovebox, etc.

$600 to replace a Beetle headlight?  Do you ever take initiative to help yourself and not hemorrhage money?

Brand new entire right headlight assembly for $128 bucks at Rockauto.

https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=12466425&cc=1389034&pt=

Takes all of 30 seconds to remove without tools!

Yep.  And in return for their efforts, he shits on them.  Perhaps not directly, but by doing things he has explicitly promised not to do.  Repeatedly.

Automotive repair costs are one of the things I tried to help Ray with keeping under control.  After he decided that it was more important to buy more video game crap than to fix his increasingly-decrepit automobile, the bad taste that left in the mouths of a number of people that I'd tapped for assistance - all of whom were aware of Ray's situation and were willing to either work at greatly-reduced rates with parts at cost, or to waive their labour rates entirely - burned a ton of goodwill that I had built up in other corners.

Don't bother trying to talk sense into him about his car; it'd be infinitely less frustrating and probably more productive to just punch yourself in the balls over and over and over.
