Cebus Capucinis
Fast travel? Pshaw. Never use it! Then again I'm also the guy who in every Fallout game leaves the vault and goes "Ahh, so my quest marker says walk east. Hmm. That's nice. Let's go west!" (Seriously, I was like 50-60 hours into FO4 before I even went inside Diamond City, and only a year later finished the story (which was...not great....so I didn't feel like I missed out!)) In fact I still haven't beaten BotW because "endlessly walking" around is just too much fun!

By the time I eventually get to the main quest I'm so insanely overpowered it's a breeze. I think I was 60 hours in before I ever saw the strip in Fallout New Vegas. Made it easy to finish all four endings that way.
bradhig1
Now it's 69.99 instead of 59.99 and has the same stale plot as every other mario and zelda.
Tanooki
The package oddly arrived today from USPS, something new seeing that. I got a few hours on it so far this evening, the bots are less annoying than the guardians that's for sure. I hate to be that guy, but I've just not played enough to get into it yet. I'm not quite warmed up to it, but it's not bad either. The first shrine didn't make sense to me on the last gap, nothing I would stack worked, ended up having to make some crap barely balanced "modern art" sculpture to just get over it which took awhile. The second shrine wasn't bad at all, that got kind of nice with the combining of items, it's a new idea given it's more than just bomb arrows and all that. I did help those 2 pairs of koroks so far too. I think having to constantly merge items can get a bit tedious, hope that doesn't get even more so. But as it is right now I think maybe, I'm screwed, not sure. I had a few mishaps along the way, lost my spare fans due to a drop from the rails as I made my cart too heavy. And I only made what I could on fire food, and I've just got one left. I'm at the top of the bottomless pit space, and nice seeing like like back(killed both.) But now I'm screwed, used my 2nd to last to run around and get nothing outside the opening there. Everything is icy, though I could go down to go up...splat. I never had the original game make me feel uncomfortable with progression or the inkling of hopelessness, but this one is creeping there because if this cold zone is getting me this tapped out ...what's next. I didn't want to lose the last 3.5m of cold resistance I have left so I shut it off for now.

There's actually a hidden chest that has cold weather armor, but it's tricky to find. You might want to look up a walkthrough in order to find it. Yes, I know, you shouldn't need one in the tutorial level. That's the only gripe I really have about the game so far, and I'm a little ways through it now since I've been playing it virtually non-stop this weekend. I picked up the game yesterday and spent about an hour playing the first bit this morning. Good to know I need to look for a hidden chest with cold weather armor, haha. I found one chest with some hot pants in it basically that seemed to cut the cold some. It got weird after that though. Got what I needed to leave purgatory in the sky, died on impact the first time, hit the shallows. I could have gone toward the marker, but saw a shrine, then another, ended up making a wide arc and hit 5, tried another floating just out of reach due to crap stamina...cratered. Did find the stables and got that pony card, but no horse to be seen anywhere. I did hit the town up, and now the crushed castle town and just slept it at that one inside there, saw 2 more fairly near by west of that but it's after midnight. The game kind of feels even more so than the first where it begs you to buy that $40 guide book that's either out there or coming soon like the last go around. The shrines so far got interesting with a batting game, twisty blocks, powered devices, a robot vs you challenge(strength) and so on. Kind of curious if I left something behind somewhere, but it's so vast and open even at this rate it's likely.

Yeah, some of those puzzles are easy, while there are some that are totally kicking my ass right now. Spoiler If you haven't already, make sure you speak with Purah after talking to Hoz, that way you'll get the glider.
digdugnate
this thread is really helping me out- thanks guys I'm waaayyy at the beginning and still need to do the second and third shrines but seeing your practical experience makes this a lot more approachable for me.
bradhig1
couldn't find it at Target today and I can't tell if the nearby Walmart is sold out. Gamestop is sold out as well. I haven't been playing my switch much lately so I was caught off guard. Too busy writing Star Wars fanfiction.
bradhig1
I had to download it. No stores around here have it. I thought the release date was the 15th I don't know why unless Nintendo changed it at the last minute.
Tanooki
@Sauron Then we agree, there are some real ugh moments. I'm debating playing it today. I got this wicked modern multicart I still need to check out. I also got through 2/3 of Ys Legacy(anime box) doing 3/3 Ys2 right now want to finish that as I've neglected it the last couple of days. I'm right about where you said, parked it next to a shrine before speaking to Hoz. Glider would be quite helpful, so would inching a few more lives and one notch of stamina too. I've yet to see another of those statues beyond the first and I'm around 5 or 6 of those power up orbs now. @bradhig1 Maybe a local supply issue. Been around here since last Friday easily found anywhere. I did amazon, had a $50 gift card with no idea what to do with it and found them jacking up the price to $70 aggravating so, it was a dodge. Lord Helmet
Took me a few hours to turn on my “Zelda brain” but now that it’s switched on I’m having a blast with this. There’s really nothing quite like a Zelda game from a pacing, exploration, and puzzle solving perspective. Nintendo really has some magic.

The shrines I've done so far are really well-done, in my opinion. Lots of times there's several different ways to approach a puzzle; I really like that. WIthout spoiling a lot, the powers you get really open up possibilities for exploration and stuff when at the end you're like 'hey, that was a clever way to do that!'

Exactly, you have tons more options of ways to accomplish things than there were in BotW.
MrBeefy
Alright so I'm a weirdo who has never played BotW despite having it on my WiiU. I really want to play Tears. Is there any reason I couldn't skip/wouldn't want to skipp BotW.

There's a little backstory or some background details/locations from the previous game, but in my opinion BotW can be totally bypassed if you play TotK first; When you talk to NPCs, they'll give you some backstory anyway. Gameplay-wise, TotK is much more polished-feeling game, which would make sense given it's been seven years since BotW was released.. I think if you start with BotW and try to muscle your way through before starting TotK, you'll be burned out before you get there.

Weapons are plentiful. If you're running out, you're doing something really wrong. If you're in dire need of a weapon, though, you can always go to Lookout Landing and grab a couple of weapons in the emergency shelter. As far as arrows go, you can buy them at any general store in town, or from Beedle at every stable. Having said that, I've rarely needed to buy any in TotK, as I get plenty from defeating enemies.
