Mean 18 … how to do the drivers…

So… just because autumn comes, summer isn’t over for me.

Now I’d like to get to grips, - get a solid grip -, on ‘Mean 18’.

So, I’ve gotten the clue to what to-do as to put well.

Well, - I just need to get better at it.

(coz’ I suck right now)

But … drivers?

How-to…?

I push ‘fire-button’… once…

… and the golfer draws back the club…

Then I push again… and the golfer swings back towards the ball…

… and then there’s the wrist-thing…

… when…?

Am I to follow the animation of the golfer-sprite?

A point on the shot-strenght-gauge…?

When, - how - , do I get a clean, straight shot…?

Thanks in advance,

Yours truly awful atari-golfer

G.

Mean 18 uses the standard 3-click golf interface. (INSTRUCTIONS)

1st tap, starts the gauge moving

2nd tap, stops the gauge and decides power (10% per line, red is overswing for extra power, but more slice/hook)

3rd tap, stops the gauge, (hook above 0% power blue section/slice in the blue below the gauge. Closer to 0% more accurate)

The problem is when golfer goes for the ball, - right before the third tap -, it sometimes seems the golfer hits the ball before the gauge has come down to the starting-line…

Perhaps I’m just not precise enough in my timing though…

By starting line, do you mean the top of the blue section or the bottom of it?

Problem is this:

I tap to swing back - the gauge-lever rises, and I try to tap second where I think the right strength-level should be, and as the gauge-lever lowers, I think the point is to tap the third time at the exact starting point, but it appears to me that before it goes that low (at least many times), - the golfer already hits the ball off into the field… before the gauge-lever gets back to start…

Is this about finding the right level of strenght for each shot, or am I just not precise enough about the third tap…?

I understand that.  I was thinking that maybe you thought the starting line was all the way at the bottom, the bottom of the blue section.  I believe the golfer will go ahead and swing if it gets to the very bottom whether you push the button or not.

Here is a Picture-By-Picture labeled with brief summary.

START - Take note that each bar represents 10% of the possible power distance of the club being utilized.  Past 100% and power goes into overdrive, overswinging, meaning further than typical 100%, but also a wilder shot.  Yellow marker denotes half of club's power (50%):

FIRST BUTTON PRESS - Gauge fills upward.

SECOND BUTTON PRESS - Determines strength power of shot relative to total possible distance of club being utilized:

POWER 30% of club distance:

POWER 70% of club distance:

POWER 100% of club distance:

The Loft (degrees) mentioned in the chart posted from the manual, comes into play particularly if you have a large object (I.E. Tree) and you are looking to possibly send the ball above it, when rotating positions left or right is not enough.  It can also come in handy if you tend to overswing and need to cut back on how far the ball is travelling from the default club provided.  If you tend to under-swing a lot, then a club that sends the ball further than default provided may be prudent.

After the second button press, the gauge empties downward.

THIRD BUTTON PRESS - Determines if the swing effect overall will Hook the ball Left, send it Straight, or Slice it Right:

HOOK LEFT:

STRAIGHT:

SLICE RIGHT:

Hope the above is helpful.
