So a year and a half ago I bought an LTO Flash and I haven't been able to put one single rom on it MYSELF. I had to have a buddy load it all up for me (Todd AKA BYTE KNIGHT). I looked through the manual, tried to follow the steps. Went onto the site to get the software. Loaded it onto my laptop, connected the cord that comes with it. The software would not recognize the LTO Flash cart. Some people says it's cuz I have Windows 10 on my PC. Some other people feel the cord I have going from the USB to my Flash cart is bad? It's the cord that came with it. Anyway, I quit trying a year ago and just had a buddy load the roms for me. I tried again lastnight. Now the software won't even load up. I guess I should try going back to the site and getting the latest software addition for the LTO? Also what kind of cord should I be using? The cord that came with it seems to be either bad or the wrong one? 🤷‍♂️

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW - Has anyone heard from Byte Knight? I haven't heard from him since the beginning of the year??? Hope he's okay? 😔

just wondering if you saw this on the site and tried it?  I believe I had to do this when I first got mine

I also got my LTO Flash about 1.5 years ago and connected it to my older Windows 10 laptop. It was not recognized by Windows until I installed these FTDI drivers. Then it worked like a charm.

About 8 months ago I bought a new laptop, also Windows 10 and the LTO Flash connected to it perfectly on the first try.

I bought the Intellivision Flashback Ultimate upgrade in November 2021 from him, he was very fast and responsive…

I've heard about early (?) LTO Flash! cartridges came with an USB cable, but the majority seem not to. Even if you believe it was supplied, it definitely is something to look into that you got a cable with all four wires connected. Unfortunately we never concluded if fully populated cables are thicker or more rigid than those with only two wires for charging.

Yeah so I just grabbed a rom for my Atari 2600 Harmony cart. Moved the .bin file to my SD card, put it in the folder I wanted. Changed the name and voila. Booted it up on my Atari 2600, works fine....  SUPER DUPER easy, but no, the LTO FLASH is a complete clusterph*ck to make work. I'm VERY disappointed with this product. What should be super easy has been nothing but grief.... If not for a friend loading some roms up for me this would have been the BIGGEST waste of money EVER..... UGH!!!! 🙄👎

Yeah, there definitely is a market for lightly used LTO. For the money you could get a BackBit with adapter which is less capable but perhaps easier to update. Just realise which features you'll be missing out if you side-grade.

I guess manually installing the drivers didn't work. It should be easy to sell.  There is another Intellivision multicart available (although currently out of stock}, one that's sd card based.

Thanks mr_me, I will be looking into this going forward cuz the SD card route is MUCH more my speed.... Do you have a link?

No I haven't tried manually installing the drivers yet because the software doesn't even boot up now. I'm going to have to try and re-download it. It's been a massive failure trying to update with this LTO thingee, not a fan.... :(

Maybe someone with a Backbit Pro cartridge would be interested in a trade.

The only thing to be mindful of are homebrew rom files that require an Ltoflash.  Also, any roms that don't use the standard memory map have to be converted to .rom format, if not already.

I would just keep the LTO FLASH as it has a bunch of games already on it, but if I'm EVER going to add roms then I either need to figure this POS out or get a BACKBIT........

I have both the BackBit Pro and the LTO Flash!

The BackBit Pro is truly the easier of the two devices to use. It doesn’t care where you put your ROMs, just put them in the right format. Bonus points for the fact that it works with multiple systems just by swapping adapters. No firmware or even SD Card change needed. You don’t even connect it to your PC so you don’t need to worry about drivers for it being stale a few years from now.

The downside is that the BackBit doesn’t support all those nice JLP features like the LTO Flash! does but for the original Intellivision library and even your own homebrew this is not an issue. It’s not like ordering encrypted ROMs of homebrew that uses these features is even an option right now anyway.

The LTO Flash! is actually trouble free for me, BUT I am using it with an M1 Mac Mini and on MacOS, the LTO Flash! “just works”.

Keep in mind that LTO Flash! carts sell for a pretty penny now. I paid way too much for mine this month and other people were willing to bid until the price was up in the $400+ range. You can buy a BackBit Pro with the adapter you need for less than $150.

How many is that, another 100+ frustrated people who can't figure out how to install content onto the cartridge? ;-)

HAHAHAHAA YUP!!!!! 😭

I will admit it's a little frustrating to get set up, but once it's working, it's easy to work with.  Sure it's a steep leaning curve, but it's an efficient little thing.

The cable does matter.  I went through a bag of usb-c cables I had before I found one.  I think I got one with my unit, but 5 years later, God knows where I put it...as if in the box would have been the right place.  Nope.

The software is a little strange.  You have to synch the unit to the software, otherwise what you think you just loaded won't be there when you insert it.  So don't forget to do that.

If anything, I find that to be annoying.  Should be live, on the go.

I have never had any problems with mine, I just copied a bunch of new games to it an hour ago with no issue. The cable does matter, it needs to be a data cable, unfortunately there are charging only cables that look the same. And I did have to install that file mentioned above the first time I used it, but since then it has worked just fine.

I am concerned that if I move my LTO and backup to another computer it may not lose all my categories and formatting but maybe that is outlined in the manual.  Maybe I just need to RTFM but it's way over there and I just sat down.

I just don't see me ever getting to that point that's the problem..... Atari Harmony cart = Simple and Easy to use; Inty LTO Flash cart = sh*t show to use.... 👎

Sorry you feel that way.  I've had mine for many years and glad I bought it.  But we're all entitled to have differing experiences and opinions.

I'm 'glad' I bought mine too as I can play many games with it on my original Inty and Inty II. It's just been very disappointing on the installing roms side.
