+FarmerPotato
My TM990/518A power supply came with this jack. I need to adapt it to the Speech Education Module. I don’t what this plug is… and I don’t particularly want to open up the case. Is it TI original? From the Pat Pend: https://patents.google.com/patent/US2980881A/en The SEM has jumbo “Molex” type jack, 4 pin, 0.25” spacing. The outer two are keyed half round/square. They carry 12,-12,GND,+5. Have not located this yet either. I guess I could adapt a new supply if I could be sure the -12V rail was adequate. The USB regulates this to -5V. I might be happy to make a little PCB adapter with ATX20 jack. (PICOPSU.) Next to the TMS5220, You can see the VM61002, which is the “Industrial” vocabulary demo phrase ROM.
Jimhearne
Probably be easiest to solder some flying leads onto the bottom of the Molex connector and terminate those with a plug you have. I find old small form factor PC's are a good source of multi rail power supplys for powering up old boards. You can link out the soft power switch to make them come on as soon as you switch on the power at the rear. And they come with some Molex connectors already attached for running floppy drives etc. I would stick some black tape over the EPROM windows, i know a lot of people say they would take years to erase in ambient light but why take the chance. +FarmerPotato
Thanks! Now that you mention it I think I will solder to the back. I can laser-cut a nice box. Get some standoffs in there and protect the board. Use one of my Geneve 2020 power PCBs with PICOPSU & wire a momentary switch. I’ve had the EPROM windows covered up except to take this picture.

The unenclosed version of this PS, TM990/518, is listed 0.9A current-limited -12V, if that helps. Not sure what the -12V requirement is on that module. The A version seems to be the same, except in an enclosure. The TM990 backplanes have a terminal block with 1/4" Faston connections. Not sure where to find a cable with that connector, though. jbdigriz
More precisely, the open-frame 518 has a terminal block instead of that connector, and would be wired up directly to a TM990 backplane. Now, the connector on your speech module looks exactly like the one on the TM990/189 SBC. The TM990/519 power supply was used with that. Left to right looking down on the trainer board connector P1 is +12V, -12V, +5, and GND.* The 189 requires 0.155A -12V, so the TM990/519 will supply at least that much. Finding one would be the trick, of course. * http://bitsavers.org/components/ti/tms9900/1602004-9701_990-189_UG_79.pdf pp. 2-1, 2-2 Edited October 1, 2022 by jbdigriz
+FarmerPotato
Still on the hunt for that darn connector. This seems to be it: https://www.mouser.com/c/connectors/power-connectors/jones-plugs-sockets/?b=Cinch&number of positions=6 Position I stumbled into some "rectangular blade socket plug" things at that junky junk pile, electronicsurplus. This one looked like the blade sockets in the patent drawing. 3 pins / inch. Molex - Beau Interconnect System/Vernitron, Cinch-Jones https://www.electronicsurplus.com/cinch-jones-p-2406-sb-connector-cinch-m-6-pin-sb https://www.electronicsurplus.com/beau-interconnect-system-vernitron-s-2406-ab-connector-cinch-f-6-position-ab From Cinch company: Jones Plugs/Sockets. Series 2400 had .25" blades. The socket contacts are "bifurcated bellows" with 4 contact surfaces. +Ksarul
Here's a link to the standard plug type ones, but they are a bit pricey. They have the standard strain relief on the end, not the right-angle version.

The TI box is going to fit the Series 300. I see slots for horizontal blades of 0.375", and the 6 prong socket is 1" wide. So it matches the plug P-306-CCT and socket S-306-CCT. Allied has data sheet here It is $15 in the straight cable P-306-CCT. P-306-HAB is the right angle bracket plug for $4 Units of 1/16" wide. Roughly: +--------------+ | [_] [_] [_] | | [_] [_] [_] | +--------------+ Socket rows and columns are pitched 0.25" apart. Socket housing is 1" by 0.625" Might accept blades of width 0.18"
jbdigriz
Jones plug. Of course. I shoulda known that. Good work! Edited October 5, 2022 by jbdigriz
