Sega really missed the boat on the SVP. If any cart needed lock-on technology, it was this one. Sell Virtua Racing as the initial SVP game, then carts specifically for lock-on for the SVP. That way only ONE game was $100 instead of every game using the SVP. It's probably why there were no other SVP games... among other reasons.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that what you are describing was the initial plan. It was to have an SVP cart that you plugged in along with games that would require it to work. But I think in the end, they decided it would be too confusing with people not quite understanding that the add-on cart was needed and so they decided to just go with all games having it included. Course only one game came about from it so it was a short lived idea anyway it seems since the 32x came out not that long after.
