Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration

Yeah, this will be my Christmas present to myself.  I'm hoping it does well so there might be an expansion pack in the future like there was with Atari Vault.

I'm less hard on Zombie Atari than many others, but they really need to cough up a few bucks and get some of the old Atari Games/Tengen titles back into the wild.  How much could it possibly cost to get Hydra, Escape From The Planet of the Robot Monsters, Skull & Crossbones, Klax, S.T.U.N. Runner, or Badlands?  There hasn't been a playable home version of S.T.U.N. Runner since the Lynx.  That's just plain wrong.

That said, Digital Eclipse have done a great job on these sorts of collections in the past, so I would expect them to do the same here, and it does look like they're putting enough into this to make it special, so here's hoping.  But, please, if anyone from Midway Games is reading this, find a way to make those old arcade titles happen again, will ya'?

t is stated to have SwordQuest:Airworld on it.  Thoughts on this, and is anyone going to buy it?

I am interested in how this game turns out..   It's weird because I hate the series.    It was a good idea, but badly implemented.   So I'm interested to see if they improved Airworld in anyway or if it's on par with the rest.

It would be cool if Atari did a complete reboot of the series with better graphics so that you can actually understand what is going on in game and not have to refer to comic books.

Because Warner Media owns Atari Games/Midway IPs and Discovery now owns Warner; who knows what they will do with anything now...

This item will be released on November 11, 2022. btw

For almost any modern platform:

Switch, XBoxOne, XBox-Series, Playstation 4 and 5… and on Steam for PC.

Even though I hoped for just little more on the 7800 and Lynx-front, I think they came up with quite fair, if not ultra-hot list here.

And if it sells a lot, and they actuall get some attention and money, perhaps we’ll see things like Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back Arcades in our own galaxy in very, very long time…

But long wait, better than never!

I just sit vegetable and drool playing Warbirds on Lynx again and again, then (that is after those ten years of continual play), check out what was explosive back 1983 in Atari Arcade…

- - -

And Atari releasing Warbirds and Turbo Sub multiplat form emulation, could mean that they may want to also assert presence on the Evercade family of systems in the future.

Would like to see more Atari Evercade carts - perhaps now mixing titles from many different hardware background…

Downloaded it last night on Steam. Very well-curated and organized package, and a nice selection of games across a wide variety of platforms. It’s fun to see some Lynx and Jag stuff on there, as I don’t own examples of either system. It’s nice to have a way to enjoy a few games from those libraries.

Picked up the DL version for Switch yesterday, watched through most of the videos, some absolutely terrific and informative stuff there.  I am reasonably well versed (or am I??) on Atari History, but did not know there were so many women who'd designed groundbreaking arcade games and others.  I knew about Carol Shaw (River Raid) and Betty Ryan (Quantum), but didn't know about several others so this was a good education for me.

Agree with @digdugnate above that I definitely had my "why isn't xxxx on here" thoughts (Alien Brigade!!), but really the selection is for the most part excellent.  Great to play an arcade port of Food Fight with the analog controls; unfortunately made me realize my pro controller drifts to the left which I'd not realized before.  Need to try out the new games too, sounds like some really excellent work there.  Love that there are unlockables, and I think the menu and navigation is well done.

Only one actual significant complaint apart from again "Alien Brigade!!! Come on!" - I wish you could make a favorites list.  With so many titles it would sure be more convenient to have a top 5 or 10.

Ok and a complaint on the "I'm an idiot" front, I paid $40 for the DL and should have just spent the extra $10 for the steelbook, just for that super sweet poster and case.  If anyone wants to sell me their poster for a somewhat reasonable price, please PM me. :)

Anyone spend any time with Airworld? Seeing that reminded me of that time many many years ago when someone here on Atari Age said they had the game. It turned out to be a hoax, but I remember many of us were really excited at the thought of the series being completed. I never "beat" the games that I know of, but I have fond memories play them even though they kind of sucked. LOL

Funnily this is tempting because I love the steelbook but find the poster a little meh, but sending it from France would cost too much for "a reasonable price". 😅

I was also surprised by the amount of women, even though one of them was a man at the time iirc.
