General TV and HDMI question

Say you've got a Vizio TV that has 3 HDMI inputs. The first two ports work in 1080p just fine, the third port seems stuck on 480P. Why is that?

I have had a Vizio TV with 3 HDMI inputs, 2 on the back and one on the side, and the side one stopped working after a few years, but everything else continues to be OK. Edited October 30, 2022 by fiddlepaddle

Not every port on every TV necessarily supports all the features a TV supports, but to have one stuck at 480P seems extreme.

 

Check the docs on that TV model to see if that's the way it was intended, and if not check the settings.    Maybe try other cables too

Well I tried 2 other cables, no change. I have a 3rd one to try later over the weekend. I didn't see anything in the PDF manual that might affect this other than possible ARC settings or the mode - like 4:3, wide, stretch, that sort of thing. I'll recheck it all over the weekend.

 

I was kind of thinking maybe since the attached STB has a glitchy barrel connector, maybe it tripped something that got the port stuck in 480p. Perhaps a complete power-down may do something. Again will check that soon.

 

I'll also contact vizio tech support to see what they gotta say.
