Fire came out of my A/C adapter

So my 4-port 5200 wasn't working. I checked the thing to plug the A/C adapter in. A couple of times, a few sparks came out of the hole to plug the 5200's a/c adapter in. I unplugged the Atari 5200 and now I will only plug it back in if I want to play it. The thing isn't hot or anything. I don't know. I don't want my house to catch fire or anything.

By any chance were you playing Scorch?

 

Seriously, though, that's cause for concern.  Is the AC adapter wiring in good shape, not frayed or cracked, etc.?

I looked at the tip, the place where you plug in the wire to the hole. It looks as though someone had re-tipped it because there's wire plastic over the other wire plastic.
