Where will the official Intellivision brand be years from now?

This thread is to discuss where "Intellivision" will be in a couple of years to 5+ years from now. The official company, brand and IP, NOT the homebrew scene.

This thread should not be used to discuss the current Amico situation, TT and its failings. That thread is here:

===============================

Everything prior to 2019 has been moved to Blue Sky Rangers website. The Intellivision timeline goes cold after 2019. Aside from a handful of Blue Sky Rangers releases. (thanks!)

Blue Sky Rangers Intellivision History

2010 Intellivision for iPhone and iPad are released in app store by VH1 Classic. Microsoft includes a dozen Intellivision titles in their launch of GameRoom for Xbox Online. Intellivision Lives! for Nintendo DS hits stores for Christmas to rave reviews!

2012 Intellivision featured in "Art of Video Games" exhibit at Smithsonian. Updated versions of Astrosmash, Shark! Shark! and Night Stalker come to Playstation Home.

2014 Retail release of Intellivision Flashback console, by AtGames. Intellivision Productions releases the Flashback Supplemental Overlays to supply the missing overlays for Flashback customers.

2016 Blue Sky Rangers and Intellivision participate in SxSW in Austin, Texas. "Videogame Pioneers: Intellivision Panel + Meet & Greet"

2017 Founder Keith Robinson passes away on June 13.

2018  Intellivision Productions joins forces with Tommy Tallarico to form Intellivision Entertainment, LLC.

2019  Intellivision Productions, Inc, becomes Blue Sky Rangers, Inc.

The official Intellivision website "intellivision.com" of course goes to Intellivision Entertainment: Intellivision Entertainment. The long awaited sequel console to our favorite system, Mattel Intellivision could see a release one day? Hard to say....

That brings us to the topic. What awaits the brand in the next few years.

Will the Intellivision Amico release? Will Intellivision become a 3rd party software developer only and just release games? Will the brand/IP be sold off? Will a different console emerge and replace Amico?

We of course dont know what will happen, but what do you think...

Does it NEED to be in the hands of a for-profit organization? Some of the best software from Mattel and third parties is hamstrung by licensing agreements, and the truly original stuff is well past its useful commercial life.

My preference would be for whatever remains of Intellivision to be released into the public domain. Stop trying to squeeze money from the old turnip. Treat it with respect, keep the Web 1.0 Blue Sky Rangers site alive for history, and let the community remix the old images and content like any old classic.

Due to the mismanagement probably where Coleco is right now after "their" debacle ... nowhere.

That was another terrible instance of brand squatting. Shameful, and worse than just letting it rot. Same goes for pre-Wade Rosen Atari, when they were trying to rebrand it as a cryptocurrency/casino/hotel/lifestyle brand. (Current Atari seems OK, as close to a return to form as we can expect in 2022)

The new VCS seems to be ok. Even the VCS games are getting a Nintendo Switch physical release by Limited Run Games right now.

Is that what could happen to Night Stalker and Cloudy Mountain?   Nintendo Switch versions by Digital Eclipse?

It's sleeping. Website seems unchanged since 2019. https://coleco.com/

Last attempt was to slap the Coleco name on unrelated Robotech and Rainbow Brite "mini arcades" in the shape of the old Donkey Kong tabletop.

New VCS seems harmless enough, but not long for this world. It has no reason to exist; everything it can do, something else can do better.

Atari 50 has yet to be released on Atari VCS. 🤦‍♀️

Just picked up the Switch version of Atari 50.    Maybe a mega compilation of Intellivision games for Switch?    Since it was announced that classic games wouldnt be on Amico (for a while)

I think at best you will see a few of the games they started get released.

Beyond that I don't see them pumping much out. I would like to see more things like Atari 50 for something like Intellivision as well as other companies. However where would the money come from, who would be the speakers, and can Intellivision was the Amico stink off of it?

I wouldn't be surprised if they sold off the IPs but I don't think they are worth as much as they'd want.

We've seen "Intellivision Lives" enough in other formats, I think. Those games are made for the old gold controller, and a large number of them simply don't hold up anymore. Let it die already! 😇

Perhaps a collection like never before?   Including 3rd party games this time. That would involve licensing fees. Intellivision should have the Burgertime license already. Mattel Intellivision had alot of 3rd party games that would make a nice collection.

What happenned to the Arcade1up mini console??!?!   It looked pretty cool. Was it quietly canned and I forgot?

Quote from a former Intellivision manager:  "I can confirm that we are doing a deal with them.  They are a great company that makes really quality stuff.  It's a mini Intellivision that will come with 10 games.  I talked about it in detail and gave the whole story in my Q&A thread a few days ago if you're interested in getting more info.  Going to be a super cool little device."

The AtGames company has made products like that, with many licenses I didn't think we'd ever see again, especially on one device. A new Intellivision Flashback would fit the bill. Not sure if there's enough of a market for retro-only devices, but surely there's a middle ground between nothing and "three billion casual gamers" like prince whatshisname was touting.

Was the sales totals for Intellivision Flashback ever released?   Not that the secondary market price would determine the succcess of a Flashback 2 type release....but the Intellivision Flashback still sells for around 100 on eBay.

I don't think we ever got numbers, but we could read between the lines with things said by @Bill Loguidice that suggested Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis were their big movers in plug-and-play machines, and that there wasn't much appetite for revisiting Intellivision and Colecovision flashbacks beyond the initial 2014 run.

At the end of 2014 after it was released I picked up 15 Intv Flashbacks for 20.00 each at Dollar General. woah!
