T.A.P.
I remember seeing the games new on the shelf in Babbage's and Electronics Boutique when I was a kid and the Jaguar was current, but I don't remember how much the games were. Does anyone remember what the MSRP was for them? Was it pretty much just a flat rate, like modern video games, or did the cost vary based on the size of the game's ROM? zzip
Wow, it's hard to find that info, but here's something from mobygames that says the MSRP for AvP was $69.99. I suspect that's the very high end of cart prices.
zzip
Here's a few others: Defender 2000 MSRP $59.99 Flip Out MSRP $49.99 Go to mobygames and for the title in question, click on "Promo Art", some of them have flyers like the one above with the MSRP
rayik
I paid 79.99 for AVP at Babbages. I was on the first shipment to the store. I believe they received only 4 or 5 copies. I paid 59.99 for most others.
+LS650
https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/ According to that, $69.99 in 1994 would be equivalent to $140 today... 1
T.A.P.
I remembered them seeming like a lot as a kid, which probably explains why my dad often waited to get them until they got marked down. In a way, it was a good thing the releases were so few and far between, it made it easier for my brother to collect them! 😛
sirlynxalot
What was the MSRP for club drive?
Flojomojo
Yep, new big cartridges were often $69.99 until getting discounted. It makes the new Xbox $70 prices seem somewhat reasonable, since modern games are so much more complex and it’s been 25 years.

sirlynxalot
that would have been a heavy pill to swallow
T.A.P.
People slag on it, but I really did love that game as a kid. It was the first 3D game I ever played where you could freely roam around, and it just utterly captivated my imagination. I still love it to this day.
+davidcalgary29
I don't have an Atari Canada price list from that period, but the few times that I saw new Jag games for sale in 1994-95 (I was not a Jaguar owner at the time), they were listed at $59.99. I think that they had a general pricing continuum with their existing systems: Lynx games were almost always $39.99 or $44.99 at the time. The last time I bought Jag games new at a game store in Calgary, though, was in 2002. I bought a bunch of them, even though I already had the titles, as they were being sold for $10 each.
PFG 9000
I paid $69.99 USD for Rayman at Electronics Boutique in 1995. AVP and Doom were $79.99 USD.

Yeah it's amazing, in modern game forums I see tons of complaining about modern game prices, and DLC prices. It's a bargain compared to what we used to pay. And today's games give you way way way way more content than the old games.

The Helper
I paid 69.99 at Babbages or EB for Double Dragon 5 back in the day. Talk about a heaping pile of disappointment there...

T.A.P.
Man, we really were spoiled for variety when it came to game and console choices back in the 90s. So many different systems with so many unique aspects to them. Now you basically just have Nintendo, and the fairly interchangeable Xbox, PC, and Playstation. jerseystyle
I remember buying games new from store- they were between 40 and 60 USD in my area, but the prices dropped fast. I picked up a new copy of Iron Soldier for 4.99 back in the day!
+Stephen
Pretty sure I paid $40 to $50 for most of my Jag games in 94/95 before things went on clearance. By that time, I still didn't save any money, because all my spending had switched over to Playstation 1 with similarly priced titles.
