But if you install Steam on a supported OS don't you still have your games?

 

BTW, sorry to the OP. This thread seems to have gone off of the rails from its original intent and I almost didn't reply as I didn't want to continue to contribute to its derailment

If you have a supported OS to install it on, sure.
But a lot of those games had features that were specific to XP software and hardware, so you'll miss out on the full experience.
Or you'll have to fiddle with hacks and workarounds.
Older games might not run at all.

It's like if Nintendo said "Sorry, you can't play your Wii or Wii U anymore. Please consider purchasing a Switch instead!" Only much more expensive.
