SviRu
Hi. I have purchased a SF314 drive. After connecting to my ST - St couldn't boot and was showing some weird artifacts on the screen. After switching off - booted fine. Next boot with drive on - nothing is recognized. Drive is silent - no life signs whatsoever. Power supply is giving +5 and +12. Nothing wrong here. Any Ideas? Maybe someone already did a successful repair? Thanks in advance. Tested on another ST - same story. Drive not showing in TOS/GEM. Zogging Hell
There are three main parts to the 314 that could be at fault here so you might want to narrow it down. These are the cable itself, the interface in the 314 and the floppy drive itself. It it the correct cable or cable issue? Perhaps try opening the drive unplugging the floppy drive inside the 314 and seeing if the effect continues (if you have another old computer you could swap the drive in the 314 for the the internal drive - easiest in PC, but you could try in the ST with more difficulty), just to see if the drive itself works. TGB1718
Does the LED light on the drive ? also some versions of TOS behave strangely if it can't find/boot a floppy drive. This is super solid original cable. Looks perfect. I will open the drive. It has factory seal didn't want to ruin it Thank you for reply. There is no sound. No activity. ST is not recognizing the drive at all. I have opened the drive and there is no continuity on the switch! None for 5v or 12v rails I'm happy - there is still hope Now where Can I find such a switch. SviRu
No luck. After hardwiring 12v and 5v and connecting sf314 to PSU. No signs of life. It was not connected to ST. Could it be that it needs to be connected to ATARI to work at all? Thank you guys I just answered myself Indeed you need drive connected to show signs of life! And it works!!! Very happy. Thank you for your time Edited January 3, 2023 by SviRu Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/345803-atari-sf314-problem-not-recognized-dead/#findComment-5182764 Share on other sites
