Happy new year from 2023 already in Germany!

It's a bit amusing that your post shows that it was posted in 2022. 🙂

Happy New Year to everyone from the country previously known as the Great White North.

In my part of the country it was 11C  (~52F) on Dec 30, so we don't have any snow at all.

Being he is from the future, I was concerned he might tell us what was going to happen.  I would rather it be a surprise.

Not sure why you saw such a notification, but nothing unusual was done to the topic as far as I'm aware (and I did look at the moderation logs for the topic).

Bad thread merge.  Works reverse from either what is expected or how it used to work.

Life repeats itself! And I kinda know how long "in a man's age"!

WotC/Hasbro are now doing the same as Texas Instrument did, back in the day (shoot them self in the foot). WotC/Hasbro is trying to get 100% control of D&D. The have/had a Open Gaming licence for 23 years and now... they want it ALL. You make something to D&D, they will own it.

Sad to see that people do not learn! This is what happens when "bean counters" are in control and they kick out the enthusiasts!

Yeah, the possibilities here are really bad. Do note that the actual terms of the new license haven't been released yet, so the end result may be a lot better than the leaked data may indicate. Of course, it could also be worse. For now, I am waiting to see what the real terms will be in the finalized OGL document.

It is out!

A leaked draft is out. The draft is really bad for content makers. The finalized OGL document containing the new license terms has not been officially released yet--and the current responses from DnD Beyond (an official mouthpiece of Hasbro) are weak. Their counsel is to wait a bit. . .while the universe of gamers/small press game companies are having a serious meltdown over what they have seen so far.

WotC has been sucking the life out of gaming for years.  Screw 'em.  Let crappy business models die.

I was heavy into Basic, 1st and second edition (forever DM). I wanted to get back into it, and bought the 5th edition books, but I didn't like how its structured. Too much "easy mode" and the characters are more superhero than hero. You really have to work hard to kill one of, to the point that it's hard to really fear entering combat. I'm thinking of switching to either Traveller or Pulp Chtullu, maybe Conan if I want to stay medieval fantasy.

It is why I stopped with Version 3.5. It is different from the earlier versions, but still a lot of fun to play. The first edition of Pathfinder is so similar to it that the two games are like a pair of twins--and it is really easy to move materials from one to the other. There is still plenty of new material for Pathfinder 1 as well, so 3.5 isn't really a dead space either in respect to new gaming materials. If you are into 1E/2E, look for all of the Old School Revival games out there, as they slot nicely into 1E and 2E games.
