There's schizo, and then there's being schizo enough to believe this:

They are just a really old playing card design.

It was people attaching "mystic" meanings to the cards in the first place (when there was none) that gave tarot cards a bad rep.

I went for a walk tonight and when I returned home, I could not get into the garage via the outside keypad; the buttons didn't light up when I pressed them.  I entered the house and opened the garage from the inside.  When I looked closely at the panel, I found a cover that slid off to expose a 9 volt battery.  For the 11+ years I've lived in this house, I've never changed the battery much less knew it existed!

I'm guessing PD is the production month|year and ED is the Eveready Dysfunction expiration month|year?

Granted, I don't use the keypad every day but for the battery to survive outside and for 13+ years is pretty wild with no leaky mess or battery-related corrosion.   I doubt the new battery I installed will last as long.

I have a little server which manages various internal network services. It runs an AMD K6-III+ with 128MB RAM. It started randomly restarting itself. While I deduced the problem was likely related to the power supply (an Athena Power AT,) I had no idea the real problem.

How about using an ear plug to fix a memory board?

I had a laptop that would not recognize an expansion RAM board.  One of the little clips that held the board in place had snapped, so the board would not seat.

Took a (unused!) foam ear plug and flattened it on top of the board, then quickly screwed the board before the foam expanded.

Worked like a charm!

Not in German 🤦‍♂️

Oops!  Hope I didn't say anything "bad!"

When SteveB said that I flashed on an old joke from when I learned Ohm's Law at electronics school in the 1970s:

Q:  "How does a nerd meditate?"

A:  "Ohm...."

By the way, I'm the one who is working at the Georg Simon Ohm university (Nuremberg/Germany). So I'm the one with the Ohm. 🙂

As "omm" or "aum" or however you like to write it is not a German word, there is no proper way of writing it. The difference between "omm" and "Ohm" in German is the quality of the "o" (similar to English with "often" and "open").

this comic reminds me of the first (and last) time i tried ghost pepper chips.

I identify with Nerd here btw, not Jock. I mean, i like spicy food, but not to the point i can't taste anything other than "HOT!". I like to taste the food under the seasoning you know?

The co-worker i gave the chis to on the other hand, must have a tongue (and gut) made of lead. He ate the whole dang bag in one sitting on lunch break. I would literally curl up and die if tried that.

Hmmm, that coworker sounds somewhat normal in my book. The snack bar at work had some really tasty ghost pepper chips for a while. I bought a bag one day and the cashier said to watch out, as they were too spicy to eat. I had them as part of my lunch--and went downstairs to the snack bar a bit later to buy a second bag. The cashier asked who I planned to prank with them--my answer was that the first bag was so good that I was hungry for a second helping. . .the look of horror on her face was priceless. They stopped selling them soon after, as I was about the only one that regularly bought them.

Ok all this talk of Ohm or Ommm is making me think of Buddhism, which makes me thing of:

"A Buddhist monk walks up to a hot-dog vendor in New York and asks "Can you make me one with everything?"

That cartoon appeared in the New Yorker, but I first saw it at the Chautauqua in New York, where Bob Mankoff, retired cartoon editor of the New Yorker, presented.* What's cool is that the cartoon was released with no caption and a contest ensued. "It sort of makes you stop and think, doesn't it" was the winner.

* on the same stage where Salman Rushdie was assaulted a year later. Makes you stop and think.
