Buckaroo
I'm putting together a re-imagining of Pitfall! and I've used the map from https://pitfallharry.tripod.com/MapRoom/PitfallMap.html to reconstruct the original level data. There seems to be a couple of errors on this map so I tried contacting the site owner but the email bounced. Does anyone know if Ben is on here? +Cafeman
Maybe … (EDIT wrong person, removed) what’s wrong with the map, I’ve used it to do a perfect run on the game.
Buckaroo
Yeah I've used the map to perfect run the game a couple of times. There's a few screens which seem setup wrong but it may be that we're using different versions of the game. For example in the screen below (screen 16) there's 3 holes, on the map there's only one hole at this location. I know it's pedantic but I'm trying to make an accurate copy of the game. I'm pretty sure I'm not, the screen after the first campfire always has three holes. I've tested this on multiple versions now including Activision NTSC & PAL, Fotomania and Supergame versions. Thomas Jentzsch
Ah, sorry. I thought you were referring to the screen before the campfire. My bad. Yes, the map is not correct there.

It might be easier in the long run. https://evoniuk.github.io/posts/pitfall.html

Didn't you see in his profile that he hasn't been online here since 2013? small chance he'll pop in after a 10-year hiatus

I think I can use this to check the arrays I've already made. 14 minutes ago, fdr4prez said: Didn't you see in his profile that he hasn't been online here since 2013? small chance he'll pop in after a 10-year hiatus Yeah I saw that but maybe the mention will wake him from his slumber. I don't know about them but I'm very much reinventing the wheel. I've turned their code into AS2 to generate the level data. Unfortunately the whole level data doesn't appear to be within the single byte. There's no mention of how the static tar pit, static quicksand, scorpion and walls are placed. I find it quite irritating that the author claims to be the first to find out how the screens are generated. Its all in my disassembly for over 20 years now. Maybe you better look there.
