Yars' Revenge for the Intellivision?

Recommended Posts

This is my favorite game on the Atari 2600. Has there been any solid plans or discussion of maybe getting this set up for the Intellivision? Would be awesome.....

Number one on my wish list.... :P

Back to Yars Revenge....

I never understood what the big deal was about it.

Seeing that game in the early 80s was one of the reasons I wanted an Intellivision over the 2600 in the first place.

And the great Intellivision sports games of course!

Sorry Wolfy.  I tend to derail instead on contributing.  I do agree, I have never got Yar's Revenge but assumed I just suck at it.  I was a bigger fan of Star Castle which it reminds me off but that would not translate well to Atari or Intellivision.  Needs lots of room for flying around.

Not true!

Your hilarious posts are very well received and certainly appreciated by me and others here.

Keep it up for sure.👍😄

Star Castle Arcade is a homebrew for the Atari 2600. Meaning it has been made. It's not bad. I have the rom on my Harmony Cart. Not a huge fan of the game, but it's playable... 👍

Here's a skeleton for someone to work from. Unfortunately the Intellivision doesn't have nearly the same colour resolution as the 2600 has, at least vertically. You can get a different combination of foreground and background per each 8x8 cell, or four semi-pixels in different colours. I tried to make the field change a little, but it looks boring not to mention slow to POKE directly into VRAM (plus that you can only do one such poke per vertical blank). Pre-defined graphic shapes with various static would be a little faster, but you still lack colour resolution.

No, I don't have any intentions to keep working on this.

Seriously, a wall of colored squares scrolling up and down might look decent, and also make the red shield in this mode. It would be a bit lower resolution and different from the 2600 version but the gameplay could be much the same.

Nice.  Just need the box, overlays, manual and it can be shipped as a CIB prototype.  Funds raised can be used to create the completed CIB that I will buy.

Cannot wait until I am at a point in my life where I can sit down and learn to code.  Looks so fun to convert ideas to code like I did with Atari Basic back in the day.

Maybe in a couple years when I'm retired; except for maybe working as a crossing guard.
