And I have such intermediate counts from last year. So it must have worked last year. Edited February 4, 2023 by Thomas Jentzsch
+SpiceWare
Just now, Thomas Jentzsch said: I don't mean the votes per game, just the total of a category. There's currently 12 votes in the Atari 2600 Homebrew (Original) topic.

I just got RetroArch and the Handy core seems really good for Lynx. I'll have to download BigPEmu next.

Felyx is the best current Lynx emulator on Windows. It is the most accurate, support EEProm that many new homebrew are using (while Handy does not, at least in common public release), and is still updated. +sramirez2008
I completed my voting over the weekend and wow! The quality of HB somehow gets better and better each year, and across multiple platforms. Again, my thanks to all of the creatives involved with each and every game. 5
bigmessowires
As a novice Atari programmer, can I suggest breaking down the nomination categories differently? Less then 4KB or greater than 4KB doesn't seem like the most important distinction to me. Instead I'd want to know if a game uses hardware extensions like ACE or DPC+, or if it only uses the base hardware resources of the Atari console. Each one is a different challenge, but I don't think it's fair to compare them directly, so they should be in different categories. It also seems unfair to compare a game that uses a bankswitching scheme with 2KB of extra RAM versus a game that ekes out the most using only those 128 built-in bytes of RAM. The way the categories are designed now, it doesn't seem like it's comparing apples to apples.

That type of game division for the Awards has been brought up in the past, is extremely controversial and has been debated thoroughly many times, resulting in extremely heated arguments. I suggest that anyone interested in the wide variety of opinions on the topic search the forum for threads about it and please avoid talking about it here. - James
Thomas Jentzsch
Also, if you want to be really fair, you would need about a dozen categories. Many with just one entry then. IMO we found a good compromise here. If you try each game in Stella, you can get information about the hardware used. Just press Alt+L. This is Gorf (see last row): Word Guess: VROOM!: @ZeroPage Homebrew Maybe you should add this info to each entry next year. Not only the size but also the bankswitching type. Also it might be a good idea to create some info which briefly describes each uses bankswitching type. Maybe something similar makes sense for the other platforms too? Keatah
Back in the day we didn't care what technology was used. All VCS cartridges were VCS cartridges and that was that. We appreciated new cartridge specs (enhanced memory) when we were told about them. But we quickly forgot what games were enhanced. Didn't care about 2K, 4K, 8K, 16K or anything else. Only the Arcadia Supercharger games got separated out because of "cassettes" and "big special cartridge with big special memory". Today we have that division again with ARM games. They are every bit part & parcel in VCS' evolution. Totally valid because they fit in the slot. And all that. But ARM games are very much beyond a non-processor cartridge. And to compare them fairly they need to be rated differently. In their own category. At the same time, a review of an ARM game can most certainly cross-reference and mention non-ARM games and also do comparisons.
