Vintage Video Game Merchandise

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I am currently working on a book relating to the various memorabilia and merchandise regarding video games up until roughly 2000. I have been fortunate enough to find a fair amount of pieces on my own, though I am now looking for help!

I would love to see any pieces you may have and possibly include them in this project! (or possibly even purchase the items)

I have currently kept a focus on clothing and accessories, though anything related to video games between 1970-2000 is being considered. I have included some images on this post for examples.

Some of what I am currently looking for and want to ensure are in the book are listed below.

Current pieces I want to see/buy:

- Yars Revenge Fly Spray

-All Pencils and Dealer Box

-Megamania Light Pen

-Atari Rocket

-Any Imagic Piece (Shirts, etc)

-Any Activision Shirts/Promos

-Obscure Shirts

This is just a shortlist, there are so many items and I want to try and incorporate anything you can think of! I am hoping to gather as high of quality images as possible to create a physical appendix of these items to prevent their loss. I am still working on my own images and adjusting as I go.

Thanks in advance!!!!

I have this sweet jacket - used to wear it occasionally but it's now starting to show it's age.

Also, a new-old-stock Star Trek arcade game t-shirt

Also something to consider, Data Age put out a record. The 80s were a big time for pins and stickers - lots of those to consider

Depending on how how broadly you define the subject, there was even video game-themed breakfast cereal in the early-1980s.

I do not have any examples or even photographs, but there were discussions of it in the business press.

I have a Nintendo 64 promotional VHS tape and a R.O.B. (missing the accessories), but nothing older.

.I posted pics of a bunch of atari memorabilia I picked up in the activision thread on here. I just added another 18 shirts recently and should have a few more soon. I will add a link to that thread.

I have been collecting arcade posters and pins for probably 20 years.  I don’t know if I posted pics of my posters or pins here.  But they have been posted on klov.

I have just been sort of deliberately taking trash pics for my use.  One thing I am worried about is all these junk shirt companies just stealing the images.

I have never seen the little food fight guys. I fully understand the fear of companies taking the images, though thankfully for most there are ways to authenticate. I may reach out at some point for some pics if you’re willing and thanks for sharing!!!

I have known about the centipede ones since the 80's. probably even have one in some random box in my closet from a show atari had at the san jose convention center. but I had never seen the food fights until recently.  I think the color variation is interesting.

For just atari? Don't know if they had special names, but I had a pacman wind up toy, wind it, let it go and it "walked" while chomping, even had a ghost in its mouth. ( I've not seen it in years, assuming I still have it, or I'd take a pic)

For non Atari, there was Nintendo cereal, and a bunch of Nintendo CDs like mario, starfox, and some others.

Most the other stuff I know of is newer, like the vinyl records of conkers bad fur day and things like that (though I think there were some Atari vinyl from bitd)

I have a few rarish things...

  • Dragon's Lair walkthrough booklet that was sold in the 80's for the arcade game, seems like there's very few of these left
  • 20th Anniversary Electronic Arts holographic cube in its original box, was given only to employees
  • Videogame Masters Gravitar patch, the silver sparkly one

would love to see a pic of the EA holographic cube. sounds pretty cool!

I am still looking for the 3 atari club video game masters patches..

When I got my DL and SA posters, I bought a little flip book that they were selling. With my great laserdisc purge, I made them all go away, but I keep the framed posters and flip book.

Neat - never saw those before.  There's more gameplay / amusement in that flipbook than in the actual game!

I have one of these as well!  Think it's been around since about 1984 or so.  Survived a surprising number of flights as checked baggage.

Any ideas on the origins?  I never knew if it was specific to the US or European markets, and cannot for the life of me remember where it came from.

I just got this.. never seen an unused arcade track & field promo kit before. Going to frame the poster and keep the big trophy and maybe one of the weekly trophies.  If anyone wants the other 3 weekly trophies or the scoring cards, maybe we can trade something.

some things I am looking for (I would buy them too)

activision jackets (any of the classic ones)

activision shirts (no gaping holes, megamania, spider fighter, greatest american hero, family shirt)

activision hockey puck

activision decathlon glove and/or headband

atari safari watch and/or pith helmet

anything odd memorabilia related atari (home or arcade), activision, ect

I hunted for that Atari Safari bag for a while before I got mine. I just got in this beauty if anyone else has one to compared. As far as I can tell it’s authentic. Don’t want to post a heads on pic just due to rarity, not yet at least. It’s the same tag as the other two sword quest shirts too

just to update 2 of the 3 trophies are now sold.  so 1 left. I put a price on them of $80 plus shipping. Shipping to east cost was $11.42 ups or $13.50 usps.

I will try to scan the poster later this week and make it available.
