Intellivision Amico Release - What are the chances?

Recommended Posts

Hello dear friends of clean fun!

I am hyped for the Amico since its initial reveal. Now, it has been a bumpy ride since then, and I am not quite sure where we are at right now when it comes to the release of the amico.

I don't know about you, but in a time with so much nastyness, violence, war and uncertainty, a console that promises clean entertainment for the whole family sounds like an awesome idea to me.

If you allow me a bit of conspiritorial thinking, it is my personal believe, that sony and microsoft were not too happy about a new player coming in outmanouvering them with nice and uplifiting fun without the nastyness.

The negativity around the Amico may have been pushed by those players and it may be this, what Tommy Tallarico was getting at when adressing the 'gaming racists'.

Pleaae share your thoughts and feelings about this as well as your impression on how likely a Amico release is.

Thank you very much for your attention!

In before the lock?...

I don't think Microsoft or Sony cared anything at all about the Amico. It probably crossed their mind for somewhere between 0 and 60 seconds.

I'm all for fun and nice and uplifting, but obviously there was no outmaneuvering by the Amico people.

How likely for an Amico release, in its current format (i.e. without major changes)? About as close to zero as you can get.

Could be true. But no one thought that much of the ps1 before it was released, right? Better to squash a potential competetor at the root before things can get out of hand?

I understand that they havent made a great impression, but they came up with something unique and approached the market in an unconventional way. Who knows where that can go...

Ooff..

Lets hope for a release. The gamingsphere can use some fresh winds. :)

I have no idea what people thought of the PS1 before it was released, but I do know it was by Sony, makers of some good TVs, and they had lots of money to pursue their vision. Like I said, if Sony knew about the Amico, after a very small amount of digging, they would have dismissed it. There is no department within Sony that is or ever was concerned about the Amico.

The Amico may have had some good ideas, but they were squandered throughout the history of the project. The good news is, anyone is free to incorporate those ideas into their own product/game.

Don't hope for a release. Just ignore the thing. Pay more attention to things that actually exist.

While you wait, why don't you stay a while and explore some nice homebrews for the original console.

They do offer nice clean family entertainment. Plus, they do exist.

Stop the Express!

Rom is for sale at Intellivision Collector website.

Sounds like a plan. I especially like that they exist. What is good homebrew to start with?

Okay. I understand. It is not looking good for the amico.

What is more likely an amico release or a dreamcast 2 release?

Any previous Game of the Year winners. You can see the names here:

Any particular genre you may be interested in? I could give you additional recommendations.

There are also a few recent releases.  You may want to check out, for example,

https://www.intellivisioncollector.com/

http://www.intellivisionrevolution.com/

These are only two publishers that have released recently, there are others.  Most games are worth getting, and you'll get high recommendations for a few.

The home-brew community is vibrant and growing, and new games come out all the time.  You may want to follow this forum to stay up to date. :)

Not just the winners from each previous year, but I dare say all (or most) of the nominees from each given year are worth exploring and are proud examples of the system.

Re: Amico, my personal opinion is that they bit off way more than they could chew and then quickly got in over their heads.  Nothing external affected it with any real weight.  If they had embraced that this was going to be a niche thing with a small audience they could have worked with that.  Instead they went crazy with all kinds of promises with no way to fulfil them based on the idea that it would be the next big thing.

Aside from the controllers, which are apparently underpowered and buggy, the Amico wasn't offering anything not already provided by something else.

I had hope for it, I've always loved the oddball stuff, but odds of it ever making it to market are almost zero.

NOW!  If you're an Intellivision fan there are LOADS of great homebrew titles out there.  2022 was kind of a banger year for the community with tonnes of new releases from the likes of Intellivision Revolution, Intellivision Collector, Elektronite, Blah Blah Woof Woof, Cote Gamers, and more.  There's a whole world of refreshed nostalgia out there for you.

This is what I'd refer to as Poe's Law.

I see your point, and you are probably right, but I jusr cant shake the feeling that microsoft and sony in there greedfueld madness ganged up on those guys to ruin everything.

Fox's Quest was a let down in my opinion.

I think it's more likely that someone will resurrect dinosaurs a la Jurassic Park than that someone will revive Amico.

Not to fret.  The classic Intellivision is very much alive.  You can go on eBay and buy a used one in good shape easily, and there are new homebrew games coming out regualrly.

Visual novels tend to be a bit of a technical stretch for the system.

I think the closest would be a game like Oregon Bound? Going on a limb here.

Also "Where in the World is Rev" could be seen as a sort of visual novel.

I'm sure the latter also qualifies as a dating sim in some people's minds.

Who am I to judge?

Check out my review on GoSub, might be more up your alley. :)

That looks nice. It reminds me of sqoon, which is also an awesome though very different kind of game.

This appears to be an orgegon trail kind of game? That is nice. I played one zombie themed before and enjoyed it.

That looks nice. It looks like an graphic adventure, which I like as well.

Isnt it possible for a homebrewer to use a cart with alot of storage (like 256gb) and make a large game such as a visual novel?

How will Tommy survive if the OG intellivision homebrewscene crushes the amico?

I hope to pick my Amico up, riding a t-rex then.

Does that apply for the european market as well?

I had to look it up. I'm learning so many new things today!

And also, hoven is someone affected with bloat. Now, how much cream is needed to be in that predicament? Or is the cream applied as a treatment?

Have an Amico day!
