Has anyone tried a 68K processor from eBay?

I've recently become an owner of an STE machine. From my research it's a good idea to replace the processor with a low power version CMOS version (which has the HC letter in the part code).

Has anyone tried using ones from eBay? Like this one for example. The seller has good reviews. Can anything go wrong if I try it?

Not my experience

I bought one from Exxos for my STE, I did have issues with it, I found it only worked consistently if I adjusted the 5V power supply

to about 4.85V, although in tolerance I prefer mine at the correct voltage as you never know what else may be affected under load.

I put my original chip back in and it runs fine.

I just assume the one I bought is just out of spec, it seemed to run ok when at 4.85V

I bought one MC68HC000FN10 from ebay, but locally, from a continental european seller.

The CPU works well,

No experience at all with chinese sellers regarding these sort of classic processors,
