From the fact that they enjoy it. And that others do. Different people want different things.

 

There is a selection bias, though. The people most likely to be making new content for a game are also the people that have spent the most time with a game and learned the most about it's behaviors and quirks. They are more likely to be really good at the game, and less likely to remember what it was like when they started.

They don't label their content as harder than the factory content because they don't recognize that it is harder. Or they do, but have no comprehension of why anyone would want the hand-holding cakewalk of the factory content.

Okay. But you understand that others might feel differently? Or even just not recognize they're making something challenging due to long experience?
