JerryN
Hi, When I was in my 20s I wrote code for a small video game company called Odyssey Software. I worked on a gaming engine that used video, timecodes, and overlaid sprites. I would like to take a similar approach with the Atari VCS. Back in the early 90s 3D objects were not rendered with a GPU, instead 360 angle shots were taken of a physical object, let's say a space craft model in front of a green screen. All images of the model were stored in ram. The Scrolling backdrop was an artists drawing that would be broken up in many tiles and displayed as needed in game play. I believe there were a few games that ran on the Atari Jaguar were created like that. I'm going to take a current programming approach using the GPU and texture buffer, but the artwork is going to resemble work done in the 1990s. Have any of you been able to test the Game Developer Beta that's supposed to be released ? If you have how do I get on the list to try it out ? I would contact @davpaeither here or on the VCS Discord server HERE. He should be able to point you in the right direction. He doesn't check on Atari Age very often so you will probably want to check out the Discord.
