I suppose at this point everything that can be said... or yelled... has been said, but just to correct the OP, there actually was a multiplayer version of Power Drift with linked cabinets, released only in Japan. And rather than just being the same game plus multiplayer, they actually redesigned and simplified the courses to make them work better for multiplayer.

Due to the Law of Retro Gamer Distribution diaspora, which states that almost no retro gaming enthusiast shall live in the same city with any other retro gaming enthusiast, it is now virtually impossible to play the multiplayer version as it was intended, although you might find a sad isolated Youtuber who nevertheless posts a video of a single-player playthrough just to eke out a few more clicks.

Whoa steady there, aren't you forgetting something?

Did you check if that rom hack was the first rom hack ever made? I doubt it. Similarly, I think there have been other fullscreen racing games with lap times before. These important things need to be investigated before you are allowed to be excited.

Well f zero was a full screen racing game wich also containing laps in order advance to the next level,BUT sadly it’s only single player, also because the snes couldn’t handle 2 tracks with 160 screens atonce,HOWEVER an alternative cool way would be to patch the game with online multi player option trough the xband modem (modern solutions for the xband does exist) to allow 2 or even 4 players ,for what i do know f zero has been hacked to allow online play trough snes9x,so there is a huge potential in this,if only the creators behind xbox created such online patch for f zero, that would,ve been really great back in 1995😁

I think this excludes large cities like Seattle and Portland. Any city that has retro gaming expos.
