Dreadnaught Factor for Atari 2600

Looks like Lou Hudson (game reviewer) was able to play the Atari 2600 version of Dreadnaught Factor back in 1984.

Did reviewers get to keep the games they played? If so, does that mean the game is sitting around somewhere?

That's the first I've ever heard of Dreadnaught Factor being planned for the 2600 (much less completed).  Maybe he was confusing the Atari 5200 with the Atari 2600?  That's the only thing that makes sense.

My first instinct here was also simply a mere typo of 2600 versus 5200 for the article. Not every Activision game was made, nor intended to be made, for every single console Activision released games for. Some of their titles were specifically designed for one console or another. A little bit of console exclusivity was fairly common for almost all the software companies back then.

Yes, given todays technology and the active home brew scene, creating a 2600 version of this game is quite plausible. But even attempting a 2600 Dreadnaught Factor in 1984 would have been seen as masochism.

True, but cutting down game features when creating a 2600 version wasn't uncommon, either.
