Deep Dive Into Atari's characters & Mascot Potential

Recommended Posts

Time for another mascot discussion thread, but I'll back it up with an almost 40 minute long video I put together :) Includes some rare pics of the bizarre "Oswald" mascot that Atari was cooking up in the 90s.

Of course I know some think of non-Atari characters like Pac-Man or Pitfall Harry as Atari's mascot but those can't ever realistically - or legally - count ;)

Bentley Bear is probably the best option if they wanted to try something like that.

I didn't know he already had a side scroller lol

Dude, Bentley has such potential.  All he needs a good game and more of social media prescense.  Like, it was his 40th birthday this year and Atari did nothing.

Of course he does. Look at Mario. Do you think he would be remembered today if Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros had been bad games? He's just a fat plumber, nothing special. Sonic is probably more interesting in terms of character design though, but he would have been forgotten as well if the first game had not been a huge success.

So actually you don't only need a good game, you need a commercial success, which is even harder to get these days.
