Appleworks 5.25" Program Disk not working on 2 GS

Maybe you can help solve this mystery. I am about to put my 2GS into storage, but I thought I would just test the 3 Appleworks 5.25" floppies I found. (These are the actual 3 disks with the Apple logo: one disk having Startup on side 1, Program on side 2; another disk=Presents Appleworks on both sides; and the 3rd is Sample Files on both sides.)

 

Now I can't recall if they came with my 2C years back or my 2GS, but I thought that these would/should still work in the 2GS 5.25" floppy drive drive 1?  Maybe I am wrong.

 

The 2GS boots the Startup disk fine, asks for Program disk, that's fine, I continue along, then enter a dummy date for the set date and time, e.g. 3/21/86,  hit space bar.... following everything in order, but then it keeps saying that the Program disk needs to be in side 1 (which is still is) with the write protect notch uncovered. I don't even see any write protect notches on 3 these disks.

 

Any thoughts here?

correction:  *drive 1 (which it still is)

The notches would not be write protect, they would be write enable. I think you need to copy side 2 to a blank disk. I think the program is trying to write the date you gave it to the program disk so that any files you create will have a creation date.

Yep, that was it. I made it and will keep it exclusively for when it asks for it and just use a couple of separate data disks for actual file storage. Sweet.
