Hi guys,

Just saw my cardiologist, everything going according to plan.

I've lost 38 pounds since surgery

I start cardio rehab on November 7th three days a week for 6 weeks.

I feel great. Probably haven't felt this good in about 7 years.

Thanks for your continued support.  It really means a lot.

Hey Gang!

I went and saw my physical therapist yesterday for cardio rehab, I start next Monday the 13th, at least 18 classes, and I can go as high as 36 but they will reevaluate me after 18.

One thing she did mention to me is I'M NOT in any stage of heart failure, at all.

She was looking at my charts and my medical reports and she said overall my heart is very strong.

Consider myself very very lucky knowing my family's history with heart issues.

And thank you guys for your support on here, it's very much appreciated!

Had my first cardio therapy today.

Mostly a step front and back machine, an arm pedal machine, and light weights.

I'm sure I'll be hitting the treadmill soon.

Just keep me off the eliptical, they mess with my ankles too much.

Thanks for all the DM's of encouragement lately, very much appreciated.

Hey guys,

I know I haven't checked in for a while. I just wanted to let you guys know that I am totally crushing my M/W/F during the week cardio class

First they have me on a NuStep machine, then a hand bike for 10 minutes, and then stationary bike for 15.

We do weights Monday morning, then resistance ban exercises Wednesday morning, and easy calisthenics on Friday morning

Every session is ended with basic stretching of core's and hamstring muscles and the like.

So it's about an hour by the time we get done.

So don't worry boys, I feel great.

Probably the best I've felt in 10 years.

Now I just need Kamikaze's FW cartridge to get here LOL

I do appreciate all of the messages, and texts I've gotten since this started. You don't know how much that means to me.

Hopefully I'll see a few of you guys in Portland next year.

That's what I felt like today. I totally crushed it. It's not hard even from the start but the last two weeks have been really really good, as far as what I'm doing with the resistance they have set on the machines I have mentioned in my thread here.

That's awesome. I remember recovering from an industrial cart accident. There's a point in PT where you get your runner's high and you realize that things are looking better. I'm glad you're hitting your high.

Howdy Fella's...

Welp......

After 17 weeks, and one day of cardio?

My last day of cardio class is Wednesday, then I "graduate".

Right now as I type this I am down 54 pounds since my surgery. I haven't been this light in about four and a half years, and I haven't felt this good as far as cardio, in about 10 years.

So after Wednesday I'm going to do what I do at home, and to prepare for that the last 2 weeks they gave me 20 hard minutes on a bike, and no NuStep machine, and then I finished up with 10 minutes on an arm machine.

I'd like to get a NuStep for my house but even the ones they have at the hospital which are 10 years old, they cost about four grand so if I want to do that I got to hit a hell of a parlay very soon.

LOL

Once again thanks everybody for your continued support. You don't know how much this community got me through with what I've been dealing with.

Hopefully I'll see you guys in Portland in about 7 months.

Got back from the cardiologist, I'm officially 56 pounds lighter since last June 29th, everything is A-OK.

I have to go back in six months they want to do an ultrasound on my heart just to be safe but there's nothing going on, he couldn't be more pleased with my progress.

They also want blood work for a cholesterol check but that will be low too, the last time I had it checked in December it was 158.

This is the best I have felt in 10 years, I can't wait to get to Las Vegas in July to bowl Nationals and see my guys.

After that hoping to make Portland this year.

As always thank you all for your support.

Great job!! My oldest son just came back from bowling in Vegas a couple of weeks ago (I'm not sure what the tournament was but he was at Southpoint).

He's way better at real bowling than Intellivision bowling. I'd guess most people are better at bowling on video games.

That's Nationals.

I suck at Nationals I wish I bowled it 25 years ago when I was good.

But what gets me most of all are the approach's in the stadium, they're too slick for me and I don't slide.

During the pandemic to make up for the first two months that were postponed they had singles and doubles in the public center, and those approach's are wood to go with synthetic lanes which is the best combination anybody can hope for in any tournament.

It was also the best six game block I ever shot at Nationals for singles and doubles that day because I wasn't sliding all over the place.

I go mostly just to see my guys who I met in 2015 on the subs list, and I've been bowling with them ever since.

Right now I would say I'm better at Intellivision bowling than real bowling.

LOL

I went to Suburban Hospital (Rick Reynolds probably knows where that is) Monday to draw blood for my new PCP.

Just a formality, because I'm his new patient.

Everything's normal, a1c, cholesterol, etc.

Heart rate and lungs are normal also.

Everybody's pleased with my progress as far as my heart. I have nothing else scheduled re. heart related until October, so we shouldn't have any updates for a while.

Sorry I forgot to post the update earlier.

Thank you all for your support.

Well boys....

To show the not everything is always sunshine and rainbows I have a little bit of an update.

Had sort of a setback in Vegas during Nationals.

Felt kind of light-headed at the end of teams on the 1st day, thought no big deal of it it's happened before, Vegas is hot.

Problem was it started again during doubles the second day, with three frames left in doubles I almost fell on my face.

And this was after I bolwed my highest game I ever shot in this tournament.

So I withdrew from singles, and immediately went back to my room and puked, and pretty much puked for the rest of the day and half of the next day.

I'm guessing I got dehydrated, because it was record heat this week, and next week is supposed to be even worse.

So after a day and a half of drinking water and Gatorade I decided I'm not going to Colorado, I'm going back to Pittsburgh tonight, and I'm sitting in the airport waiting for my 5:00 flight.

I'm fine I promise, I just never realized that high altitudes can affect a heart patient like it does, I guess I'm not as far along in my cardio that I thought I was.  Trying to bowl six games in two and a half hours in 115° heat is too much to ask of me right now.

Thanks again for your support.

A quick update....

Had an ultrasound on my heart last weekend, since it was about 15 months since my surgery.

Everything going according to plan.

Left side and right side functioning well.  Both sides are normal sized.

No structural heart disease.

74 pounds lighter.

It's about as good as one can hope for it this stage being my age and whatnot.

Thanks for always looking out for me fella's and all the encouragement I get in direct messages I really appreciate it.

That's awesome.  This has been heart checkup month I guess.  2 years since my surgery and results of stress test and heart monitor say things looking good.

Let's play some Microsurgeon.
