Call for Volunteers to help Setup / Tear Down AtariAge Booth

Recommended Posts

Greetings!

The AtariAge booth is going to be its largest ever at this year's Portland Retro Gaming Expo, measuring a whopping 45' x 30'!  This is twice as large as the typical size of the booth, which has been 30' x 30' at its largest.  I'm taking advantage of this space to setup even more game systems than in the past, and hope to have 45-50 system setup!  I think the largest we've hit in the past has been around 40.

As you can imagine, this takes a fair bit of time to setup before the show, and tear down at the end of the show.  But it's especially time consuming to setup.  It's not terribly difficult, but when you're setting up so many systems, it does take a bit of time.  There are also banners to hang from the pipe and draping, and since there will be two large walls in the booth this year (one 45', the other 30'), I have even more space to hang banners for all the different games!  Other tasks include putting merchandise out on the tables, setting up the 8" x 10" display placards for each game, putting out all the demo carts and testing them to make sure they are functioning as expected, and more.

I will be setting up the booth beginning as early as I can Thursday, October 12th, and hope to have everything setup by end of day.  That leaves Friday for any remaining tasks, and any last minute fires that have to be put out (and there's always something!)  Teardown starts immediately after the show closes at 5pm on Sunday.  This goes much faster (it's always easier to destroy than create!), and the more people to help, the faster it goes.  :)

I will be arriving Wednesday, as I have to shuttle many items from several different locations in Portland to the convention center that day, so everything should be ready to setup Thursday morning.  That's the plan, at least!

If you're interested in helping, even if just for a short time on one of these days (Thursday, Friday, and/or Sunday), that would be greatly appreciated.  You can either post here or send me a private message directly.

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to seeing everyone in Portland!!

Albert:  I can help on Thursday afternoon if you need it.  I am not attending the show at all this year :( because I'm leaving on a cruise Friday.  However, if you need help and can get me in, I'm happy to assist.

I appreciate your offer, let me see where I am once we get closer to the show.  Sorry you aren't able to attend this year, but taking a cruise certainly sounds like a lot of fun!  Seems like a big tease to come help setup the booth and then not be able to attend the show!!  :)

No worries at all.  I've been to so many of them and volunteered a few times.

If I feel I don't have enough help, I'll definitely let you know, I just feel a bit bad having you come out there only to not be able to partake in the festivities!!

Thank you all, that'll be a big help!  I'll contact you privately and provide you with a means of contacting me in Portland.  :)

So do you have a huge trailer of stuff to drive up to Portland?  That's quite the road trip!

Last year I shipped a ton of stuff to Portland and then rented a storage unit there, which will make it much easier this year.  I still drive up and fill the car with anything that's not already up in Portland, although some stuff will still be shipped there in advance (a tiny amount compared to last year!)  And, yes, it is quite the road trip!
