+jgkspsx
It’s for the Micro Player mini arcade: 77 2600 games, 23 NES games from Piko. It has a P1 difficulty switch and the B/W switch, but no P2 difficulty. 2600 emulation appears noticeably slow and flickery. It looks okay enough that I will probably pick up the Pocket Player version if that has difficulty switches. famicommander
Looks like another sub-par, overpriced emulation device. Meet the new boss (MyArcade), same as the old boss (AtGames). I guess we don't deserve nice things. 3
+jgkspsx
Historically these things have been available for less than $20 eventually. I would be happy with it for that.

A device that still plays 2600 games poorly isn't worth the effort to pick one up off the ground for free.
Atariboy
I don't see major issues in that video. While playing on a mini tabletop arcade unit isn't my cup of tea, for those that enjoy that this seems like a reasonable way to enjoy a range of 2600 classics (and some bonus NES games). famicommander
Comments section on the video says they're using the same hardware/software as all the AtGames Flashback garbage. What a waste.

The slowness is visible and audible (sounds are pitch shifted down), which was not a significant issue with the AtGames or Blaze handhelds. It doesn’t seem atrocious but it probably disqualifies these from high score competitions and the like.
+Stephen
35 iterations in of the same rehashed shit, and they still can't get it correct? Oh well - we've only had decent 2600 emulation since what - 1995 or 96? Maybe by the 50th anniversary of the 2600, they can get a re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-release out that works properly. 2

roots.genoa
Maybe the idea is to get it right for the 2600th iteration? 😅 1
+jgkspsx
Review of the Atari 50 Pocket Player handheld: Same stuff, different form factor, as you might expect.

I like the cheerful 70s aesthetic, almost like the Starfield wraps for Xbox. Funny to think these diagonal brown rainbows are having a little resurgence. I’d buy the pocket one, warts and all, for the right price if I saw it in a retail store.
famicommander
Like I said elsewhere, Atari needs to immediately end all relationships with trash merchants like My Arcade and AtGames. Stop releasing stuff with bad emulation. They should have just partnered with Blaze for an Atari-branded Super Pocket like the upcoming Taito and Capcom devices. Much better emulation, much better screen, full Evercade compatibility, and only 20 bucks more.
Mockduck
I've never understood why these companies pack these devices with paddle games but then don't realize how basically unplayable they are trying to use a D-pad.

If it sells, why should they care? As long as there are people out there who will buy anything with an Atari logo slapped on it, there's no incentive to make a product that's actually halfway decent.

They're targeting the same people who bought the same janky ass broken Flashback devices every single year. Those people don't have standards and most of them probably don't even play video games. They just want more crap with Atari logos to sit on a shelf. Edited September 6, 2023 by famicommander
JeffIrok
Hi - I see not a lot of people aren't crazy about this little unit. I like it...Oh well.. I found a solution for turning P2's difficulty switch between Hard and Easy. It's not in the directions that I saw. It's possible it's been found already but I did a search and didn't see it. But if it's out there, feel free to ignore. As we all know, when the Difficulty button is pressed, both P1 and P2 settings are displayed, but pressing the Difficulty button multiple times only toggles between P1's Hard and Easy setting, and P2's settings aren't affected. The solution is, while the settings are displayed (they continue to display a couple seconds after the Difficulty button is pressed, so technically you don't have to hold the Difficulty button down while doing this), Button B allows you to toggle between P2's Easy and Hard settings. Enjoy! 😄 1
