ColecoGamer
Since we have new rules to follow (including IPs), what would happen if someone (say.. me?) were to do an Arcade port of krull for the 2600. The game would be free in digital format. Would this be in-line with the board’s new rules, or would it be a complete waste of time? I’m asking because the job is going to be a lot of work. I don’t want to waste my time developing this title if it’ll get me banned or something.
+Nathan Strum
Krull is a movie property. I think Sony Pictures owns it. Atari doesn't own that IP any more than they own Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T., or any other movie they licensed back-in-the-day. They can make no claim to it. Gottlieb made the arcade game, but they would've had to license the rights as well. You can make any game you want, and it (currently) won't get you banned. But if it's based on any unlicensed IP, it won't get produced or sold by Atari(Age).
