BuckraBoy
Having an issue with a recently purchased IIc where, after dropping into BASIC it will continually generate blank characters (spaces presumably) before generating a \ character then starting a new line and rinsing and repeating after that. Running built in diagnostics passes with System OK. Have tried with a known-good keyboard, IOU, CHAR GEN and MAP chips. Board looks to be clean with no signs of damaged traces etc. Anyone got any idea what could cause this? I can only think that perhaps the keyboard encoder is bad? It's soldered in and my test equipment is pretty much limited to a multimeter. BuckraBoy
Turns out this was a faulty keyboard encoder encoder chip. Piggybacked another one that i stole from my faulty Apple IIe Platinum on the top of the existing chip and the issue went away. Now just need to unsolder the faulty keyboard encoder, pop in a socket and drop in the replacement that i got from Joe's Computer Museum's Shop. Then i just need to sort out the faulty memory issue on the same machine to finally get it fully up and working again.
