New batch of 7800GD ?

The composite sync voltage was marginally high and the TTL sync voltage quite low for the external AV port. These have been rectified. I have also changed the audio driver for the internal audio feed to the 7800 to an open drain driver which will have better compatibility with badly connected video (composite / s-video) mods. Some audio mods recommend shorting together the POKEY and TIA audio which is a very bad idea with a push-pull driver, so I've opted for an open drain driver to allow these types of mods to function unmodified.

Hopefully around 4 weeks, I’m waiting on PCB’s to arrive. Has been a bit longer than initially expected as I wanted to double check some fixes on the next PCB revision on the production boards, which was all good.

I won't miss the next round. Thx!

Are any of this second batch expected to go to Stone Age Gamer? I was one of the people caught up in their first batch ordering fiasco who's successful purchase of "stock in hand" turned into a "pre-order oopsie". Obviously that is their issue and not yours, but I am curious what the chances are that this second [November-ish?] batch me help resolve the issue for myself and others in the same situation?

Restocking worldwide should be next week. Again, it's somewhat limited, just 300 total across all retailers. Once I'm happy there are no further minor issues to resolve I will produce larger numbers. :)

Awesome! Thank you. I've been anxiously waiting. Hope I can snag one.

Did these ever hit retail as expected? I have one friend who was bitten by Stone Age Gamer's system over-selling the available first-round stock, and another friend who got a defective unit from AtariAge waiting for a replacement whenever Al gets more for the Store. And personally I'd like one of the newer-rev Mega7800 adapters.

I saw a post through Twitter...sorry... X where one of the UK distros has gotten in a new supply of the newest revision in? Perhaps @SainT can give more details on that?

Everyone should have them at this point. I’m not aware of any defective carts, though. Certainly defective consoles.

That was from a friend of mine IRL who is both an electrical engineer and an avid retrogamer with decades' experience working on vintage consoles, arcade cabs and pinballs. The cart would not read contents of any SD card at all, apparently confirmed by Al when he returned it for an eventual exchange.

My other friend who had tried to order from Stone Age Gamer has still never heard about more stock from them. I note their site shows Out of Stock every time I've checked in the last couple weeks to try to order another Mega7800 adapter.

Just to let you know that more 7800GDs and mega78s are in stock in the AA store as I type this.

Oh, interesting, I’d not heard this, I’ll get it back from Al eventually to post-mortem! Unless this was the issue where the game list would display garbage, I vaguely remember there may have been a report of this. It was an issue with a batch of defective SRAM chips, I caught the majority of these issues during testing, but I have a feeling one may have either slipped past or failed during transit. In this last batch there were zero issues like this, so it just looks like it was a bad batch from the supplier.

I ordered one in July from Stone Age Gamer Ryan Cross and have not received it yet. $255.

They had some technical issues with their store software and oversold by quite a few units, they have stock now so I would expect you should get yours next week.

Mine arrived today from retro towers UK. It's working flawlessly except for some minor flickering for about 2 minutes when booting up a cold console. If it's still warm there are no such issues. I have an unmodifed PAL unit connected via rgb out to scart on a CRT. The initial glitching looks sync related and I think it's either the TV or the console. I have some replacement caps for the 7800 and could replace the voltage regulator but I'm not entirely sure that would fix the issue?

The Mega 7800 adapter is also working flawlessy after I dissassembled my 'used' competition pro controller and cleaned pcb etc with isopropyl alcohol. Happy days.

The rgb out picture quality is completely next level, I love it!

The flickering sounds interesting, is this via the AV out on the cart or via the console video? I've only had flickering on a really bad Maria chip and the output on the console was also bad, although not flickering. A new PSU may help (there have been reports of the old 7800 PSU failing), as might re-capping. I'd be very interested to hear how you get on with that.

And I do like the Mega7800 and 7800GD combo, the START button to break is amazingly good. :)

Yes it's the rgb out from the cart. I recapped the three electrolytics tonight and it's still happening for a few minutes. I will install a barrel conector for power and try a 9v 1a switching power adaptor next (as I am using OG psu). Yeah the start button is a nice touch I can save my game in Dark chambers and save to preserve high scores etc 😀

No, I don’t have one to test, so this information will have to come from the community.

If I were to order this and try with a framemeister, what cable would I even use? Something like this?

I'm not sure on the Framemeister either but if it only provides for an 8-pin din connection from it, then what you would likely need to do is get the JP21 scart adapter for the framemeister and then you want a Genesis model 2 RGB SCART cable to try and plug into that JP21 adapter. I don't own a Framemeister so I could be wrong on this, but the 7800GD AV out port is a 9pin mini din and will not accept an 8pin cable.
