I can't believe I missed this!

Recommended Posts

This is just a stray comment. I just went on the Facebook market place and saw someone that sold their Atari Jag, Jag CD and 2 controllers for $100. I'm kicking myself for not finding it first. I never know though. Someone may have offered him a lot more for it.

I'd love to get a Jag and a Jag CD again but the prices are waay more than what I want to spend.

Anyone else have something similar happen to them?

That is insane... I sold a Jaguar CD, in the box... used, but BARELY (I bought it new and maybe had 6 hours of play time on it), and I sold it for almost $900 bucks back in 2021.

Well. It came back up on Facebook. He said he needs the money. I asked him why is it up for trade as well. He said he already had was he wanted. He asked me to pay 30% before he can meet me. I smell a scam.

It was just too good to be true. ...bummer

HUGE RED FLAGS there bud and there are all kinds of scams for retro gaming on Facebook. You pay and they disappear then pop up later with a new profile, rinse repeat.

The worst is when they hack one of your distant friend's accounts. Happened to us recently. A friend who owns a diner and rarely goes on Facebook contacts us out of the blue saying she was buying a bigger diner and selling out to move there, living in a week, and had to sell a number of things. Buy two get one free, they'll deliver, must be all gone over the weekend. Messaged her about a couple of things, none of the prices matched up and wanted money up front. So, one phone call to her later and we deflated the scam. She reported it to Facebook and put a stop to it.

Yeah, I see people posting all the time in groups warning of this person and that, posting messages and typically others chime in "OH YEAH THEY TRIED TO SCAM ME AS WELL" and so many times they admit they were impulsive and did not listen to that inner voice. But just sticking to certain common sense rules, NO MONEY UPFRONT, do NOT pay by Paypal friends & Family etc, if the person has an issue with such things it's likely because they are trying to scam. BUYER BEWARE is what I live by. Common sense, patience and a little investigating (like you did) goes a long way to prevent fraud, they will move on to the next easy to fool victim unfortunately but sometimes people learn the hard way.

There are some that live by notifications. They set alerts for all sorts of stuff so the instant something comes up they can snag them before anyone can. Some that do that snag things and then flip them versus keep for their collections. But seems like whoever snagged that for that price scooped a hell of a deal and probably had an alert I imagine.
