2600+ amazon or preorder from atari

I got the email about approving paddles and at least berserk. Went to Amazon to deal with that an it pops up a message, "log in on your pc to fix the issue" uh... What? I haven't owned a computer in 8 goddamn years. Well, I did get one a couple weeks back, but Windows 11 simply doesn't work, after my BP had hit about 140 I wrapped that piece of shit around a tree. I see little chance of getting another computer soon, so I guess I'm sol on getting paddles and that game, until they become legit available (no I'm not paying 10x on ebay)

We are fortunate to be living in a time of great affluence, where many people think nothing of spending $200 for a couple of hours of nostalgia on Christmas morning.

A lot these 2600+ units will be available used very soon.  I'm happy to wait for one.

That's definitely the more responsible thing to do. But remember... there's no used without at least some people buying new!

I finally got mine in the mail today. All three items were there (Paddle bundle, 2600+, and the extra joystick). Just a few comments... it felt like my GameStation Pro order had a bit more pizazz to it. It was all three items in the box, loose. The Atari 2600+ box was the same size as the cardboard box. It's clear Atari did not ship these out themselves, to Dubs point. This is a negative in my mind. Atari could have done a couple of pack-ins, like a couple of flyers, or a sticker. It felt like a routine Amazon.com package would have had more of a personal touch to it, haha...

I took everything out of the box, but haven't opened anything. I'll take a look at it this weekend. I think I'm excited that I'll be able to play the 2600 carts, but the GameStation Pro will probably be the device that remains on my entertainment center next to the VCS... and I may bust out the 2600+ only now and then. Still glad I ordered it, but really wish Atari would get the ordering straight... having my "pre-order" get delivered much later than everyone else who didn't pre-order has really left a bad taste in my mouth.

I've been ordering things from Atari for at least a couple years (maybe longer, I just don't remember there being that much before that), and I've always known ordering direct it's one of those retailers where it's just going to take a while.  So I don't worry about it, and the item just comes when it comes.  But the 2600+ is different, and is the one thing none of us wanted to be stuck waiting on.

I don't know if or by how much the response to the 2600+ has exceeded expectations, but I do wonder if Atari expected it to be as robust or appreciates it.  I seriously think this platform has the potential to be the basis on which Atari rediscovers itself and much of what was great about the Atari of 40 years ago, and even go on to do new and better things.  There's an opportunity and a vision here if they can grasp it.  If not the device alone will stand as something of an achievement, but there's so much potential.  So maybe get a solve for a first class customer experience out of the way for the good of the brand.

Why am I holding out?  I should have canceled my atari.com preorder order weeks ago :(

Don't cancel now, it's sold out everywhere lol.

Man I was reading a notice by a game reseller today stating he was seeing unprecedented demand for 2600 games since the 2600+ launched, and he was excited about keeping games in stock and promising to get more, lol. Good sign.

Looks like things are happening. Great to see it! 👍

I reserved everything on Amazon back when it was all still available, and while the 2600+ arrived on Nov. 18, the extra joystick won’t arrive ‘til Wednesday. The three games (and paddles), however, still don’t even show an estimated ship date.

To be safe, I placed an order for those three items on Atari.com last Friday, and already received my shipment label confirmation overnight tonight.

Knock on wood, but it looks like the promises were all kept. 😀 This is totally my anecdotal experience, but those still waiting on Amazon, I’d try to give Atari.com a shot on this one.

Atari's distribution center messed up on the first shipping wave going out of order and not shipping the earliest orders out first but I do think they improved in the 2nd wave as I have seen a lot of people who ordered early from Atari.com getting their 2600+ orders shipped out this week.

I think someone at Atari did the right thing and did what they could to prioritize most of those early Atari.com orders that got missed in the 1st wave.

Yikes, I feel bad for y’all who ordered early and are getting the run-around.

I ordered on a whim Tuesday—with games, paddle, extra joystick—and FedEx got their hands on it yesterday.

Crossing the country; should be here next Thursday.

I also was in my local game shop picking up some cartridges today and spoke to the owner, who wishes he could get some of them in the store to sell, but can’t seem to.

It's nice to know these are that popular. It looks like it's going to be a good Christmas for Atari and for used game sellers.

I ordered Berzerk and Mr. Run & Jump on November 24th from Amazon and just got the notification today that they've been shipped and should be here by Dec. 15th.

Ooh, I didn't realize those were back in stock. Thanks a lot, I just ordered both. Mr. Run and Jump could have been here on the 15th, but Berzerk wasn't until the 16th, so I changed Mr. Run and Jump to the 16th as well.

In the past, I'd always bought literally every homebrew all the time, yadda yadda... but I think I'm going to be a bit more selective when I buy homebrews / new game releases. I love the 2600... but I'm not about to start becoming a serious collector. I have 200+ carts that I acquired over the years, but only a few dozen in the box. Some of the new Atari 2600 games are really nice, but it's got to be a super game for me to put in the effort. I did buy Berzerk Enhanced... and if they did a new Combat, I'd do that too. Or even a new Maze Craze.
