guitarmas
Hey guys, I recently got a PS4. I traded a few older Imacs for it. I got Doom Eternal like I wanted... ...but what other games do you consider good for the PS4? Doom Eternal is good. I'd just like some variety though. Thanks! jerseystyle
The Metro series is good. And goddamn play Witcher 3. And The Last of Us. boog
Not a game suggestion, but my biggest gripe with PS4 is that games have to be fully installed on the hard disk, even if you buy physical discs. A lot of modern games are 100GB or more after update patches, so if you only have a 500GB or 1TB internal HDD it fills up quick. If you're just starting with PS4 I'd recommend swapping to a larger internal drive or getting an external HDD before you start buying many games. You could just uninstall/reinstall games as you go along, but if I could go back and start over I'd get a 2TB internal HDD on day one. External HDD dangling off the system is a nuisance. Note that you'd need a 2.5" notebook HDD that's 9.5mm or less in height. I think 2TB is the largest capacity available for internal and they're only about $70. guitarmas
I had no idea that you had to fully install the games onto the hdd to play them. That's a major let down. boog
Yeah, all games are fully installed but you still need the disc in the drive as a security key to play. It's stupid that you're filling the HDD with single play cutscenes that could easily be streamed from the disc. Makes digital/physical versions functionally equivalent... except that you can re-sell a disc. guitarmas
Yeah. What's the largest hdd can you install? Suggested tutorial? Edited November 26, 2023 by guitarmas Revised text. boog
It's very easy to swap. Trap door to access the drive so you don't need to open the system. Here's a decent tutorial: Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/357297-so-i-got-a-ps4/#findComment-5355753 Share on other sites
guitarmas
Thanks for the link. Can I put a 2tb ssd in it or is there a specific procedure to be done to allow this to happen? boog
As long as it's an SATA drive and 9.5mm or less in height it should be good. Found a recent article with recommended drives: https://www.gamesradar.com/best-ps4-ssd/ If you've only installed one or two games so far you may be able to skip any data transfer steps they mention... guitarmas
Thanks for all the help guys. I was hoping that replacement of the hard drive was just a swap out. It looks like there's more to it than that. Nevermind. The process looks really simple. 🤓 Edited November 26, 2023 by guitarmas Crossed out some text and added an update. BawesomeBurf
Yeah, I upgraded mine to an SSD about a year ago. Makes the system much snappier. It does suck about the forced installs. Hasn't really been a problem for me since I stay away from AAA stuff and don't really buy too many games now anyways. Should be the same procedure as long as the SSD is in a 2.5" form factor (think it has to be less than 9mm in height, should be no issue for SSD). Keep in mind the SATA in PS4 won't get the full speed of the SSD, but it will still be much better than mechanical drives. Not really a PS4 thing, that's the direction the industry has gone, every console does this now. guitarmas
Yeah. I feel better now. I only have one game right now. If I start getting more games, then in the future I may upgrade the hard drive. I panicked and though it was total doom (no pun intended). I tend to do that so often. Anywho. The PS4 is great. I'm really liking it right now. 👍 Edited November 27, 2023 by guitarmas Added text 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/357297-so-i-got-a-ps4/#findComment-5356369 Share on other sites
calfranklin0598
I'm in the same boat. I bought my youngest son's PS4 (500GB) and noticed immediately that decent games would full up the internal HD quickly. I may upgrade the internal drive someday, but for now I'm just going to use existing storage or use one of my external drives. I also bought Doom Eternal just haven't played it yet!
